Platform:
Windows XP Professional SP3
Windows Firewall
Avast FREE

I've notice for sometime now, that Opera (version 12 build 1467) randomly response with this "Error: Connection Closed by Remote Server" when i load a web page... weird thing is, i just click refresh (or his back then click on whatever link i clicked on) and the page load back fine....

This happens quite often... but i never experience this on Chrome... I've been using Opera for the last 5 years or so and this started appearing when i was with Opera 11...

This doesn't happen on a particular website...

Anyone experience this problem before?

have you recently installed any of those VPN or other services that allow you to watch US TV from here? they can mess with your DNS and cause issues like this..

And perhaps you could tell us what ISP are you using? I have a suspicion...

no... i've noticed the issue haven't appeared for a while now... it is definitely an Opera issue as other browsers don't have this problem at all... and it only exist(ed) on Windows XP... have Win 7 and 8 on VM and Opera functions fine on them

it's a unique and weird issue - i've done some research online (and on myopera.com forum) - most or all of the problems similar to mine is to do with the browser not even connecting at all...

You should still tell us the ISP - you never know. I use two browsers here and one show connection reset by peer, the other shows a generic error or sometimes retries until it works. In my case it's the ISP, not the browser.

I'm using Opera 12 release 1491 here at work on Telecom with no problems. Win XP 32 bit.. The only thing that irks me is how long it takes to go to the speed dial after it's been run up..

It could be a number of things:

Try going to avast! GUI -> Real-Time Shields -> Web-Shields -> Main Settings -> Check Scan traffic from well known browser processes only.  See if anything shows up.

Check that your preferences are set to "direct connection (no proxy) > ON".

As a further test, disable all shields and try browsing. Avast! is known to cause connection closed problems.

Another possible cause is a DNS resolving issue in the DNS server you're set up to use. That may be the ISP's DNS cache or you may have a DNS cache corruption on your PC.
Try running ipconfig/flushdns through command prompt and see if that makes a difference.

the thing is, the problem hasn't occurred for a few days now... really weird... i'm waiting for the next hick-up and i'll run flushdns

i have looked at Avast and seems not to have any problems on report - but at first i thought it could be something to do with Avast

If your machine is good enough to run win7 in a vm then why not switch to it permanently the Opera Devs are doing alot of stuff in Opera that is Vista/win7 centric right now like hardware acceleration

I do know they've been having an NSL problem of late which they are trying hard to fix

also keep an eye out here see if others are having the same problem

Why not try installing your antivirus and installing microsofts security essentials, which is free. That will tell you if it is the antivirus or not.
