Actually they aren't in stock now, its just preorders for when they come back into stock on the 5th of December

You mirror my current thoughts with Android very closely. Having my One X has shown me that iPhones are not the be all and end all of smartphones, and there are areas where Apple are really starting to lag. I was initially incredibly enthusiastic about my new phone, but the more time I spend with it, the more the rough edges start to show. I still appreciate the flexibility that Android brings to the table, but would love to see more uniformity and overall reliability to the platform.

I'm not done with Android as such, and the One X is still good enough to be my primary phone (partly helped by my iPhone 4 having an unresponsive home button, I must admit). But of all the devices on the market at the moment, the new Windows Phones (especially the Lumia 920) have me intrigued the most. But I won't be in the market for a phone upgrade for quite a while, so I'm settling for admiring from afar. Its probably better that way. There's no chance for my expectations to be dashed if I never actually get to play with one :-)



Yeah, I guess that's a better way to describe it. You start to see rough edges the longer you use Android

I've been wanting to upgrade to another Android device but having used both the SGS3 and One X and One X+ I felt like there wasn't really any compelling reason to move off the SGS2.

I might be swayed back to Android at some point but for now I'm just not digging it

Someone should ask @telecomnz and ask if they're going to get the wireless chargers (I don't use twitter otherwise I would)

You totally should use Twitter! Last time I asked Telecom for something via Twitter, this was the result

Sure was! That was a result of a "Tweets for Treats" promotion, where they awarded their Twitter followers with treats they had asked for. As a long time Porsche junkie, I cheekily asked for a Porsche for a day. They responded with three laps around Hampton Downs in a 911 Turbo, and a case of my favourite beer.

It takes a while to get your Twitter timeline into a place where it presents you with meaningful dialog. The secret is to follow people with reckless abandon, knowing you can easily unfollow them if you find they're cluttering up your timeline with noise.

Twitter has also been embraced effectively by many NZ companies, and I've successfully used it a lot to seek redress for poor customer service experiences. Telecom and the other telcos are particularly good for this, as are many of the banks.

One such example was when I came home from the ASB and vented via Twitter about the constant upselling, when all I want to do is bank my money. Next minute I had a phone call from the local branch manager to address my concerns. As a result, she held a training session for all her staff, and the service has been top notch. She even personally thanked me next time I went in there, for bringing the issue to her attention.

Anyone having problems with received SMS having timestamp 8 hours in the future? All time and date settings on the phone are set to NZ and all "sent" messages have got correct timestamp. It is only received SMS that are affected. Support team at TNZ's 123 are baffled....

There was a similar problem on Windows Phone 7 with Vodafone before - here is the discussion.

Although Vodafone never publicly admitted the problem, it seems it was related to its SMS gateway. It could be that Telecom is having some similar problem?

Yup.. Same issue on my HTC 8X and Telecom.

Yup.. Same issue on my HTC 8X and Telecom.


Escalation team at TNZ have said they will investigate further. By coincidence someone sent me a MMS whilst I was on the phone to TNZ and the timestamp was correct. So the problem is only affecting SMS.

Lot of users might not know this about WP8 but do go to the Wallet app and set a pin number for your wallet. This ensures that no one can delete/edit credit card info that you have tied up with your Microsoft account to purchase apps from marketplace or on Xbox 360. Also it will always ask for that pin number when buying paid apps from the Windows phone store.
