qraider: 1/ Very nice looking handset
2/ Resizable icons
3/ Similar to WinPhone 7
4/ Good soundz (for me at least)

Still getting apps and such sorted for it but very nice little handset (compaired to Samsung Note).

Only issue I've noticed is that it doesn't seem to updated the song/video list, i.e. still shows those that have been removed ...

I read somewhere that all windows handsets would feature Nokia maps and navigation. Is this still the case - is it on the 8X?

2 questions about WP8/WP8 mobiles

1: Is there any WP8 mobiles that have the same/bigger size screen as SGS3? Dont think I could go to anything smaller now

2: Im guessing the answer will be yes to this one... Do you have to have all those tiles (Think thats what they are called?) on your screen? Or can it be like Android where you can customise whatever.

Thanks!

The tiles are the essence of the platform - they show updated information (hence "live"). You can position tiles in any way you want, and select from three different sizes.

Have the people looking to buy a lumia 920 seen the review from Gizmodo? I got a chance to play with a demo unit and can confirm that it is one heavy phone.

I think this is silly, I've got a LG 7Q and its 178g. The screen is only 3.5" and I find it to be a perfectly reasonable weight. You get used to it so quickly you don't even notice.

That review sounds incredibly biased and not professional at all. The point they made about wireless charging being a gimmick?? Are you kidding me? How about having a magnetic pad in your car so you don't have to keep plugging your phone in every time you get in? How about having one on your music dock paired with NFC, just pop it on and no need to connect anything.

They didn't even go into the Optical Image Stabilization properly just giving it a brief mention which is so subjective and opinionated its completely irrelevant anyway.

Me too! Hearing mixed things about the 920, especially about the camera. Starting lean towards 8X, but not sure if it will have the nokia maps. I guess I might have to wait till I can play with one in store... But that seems too far away!

Watched Paul Spains mini review of Samsung Ativ S, anyone else played with one...? I like the $799 preorder price... Although I've heard off contract 920 in the US is US$450.

Just checked AT&Ts website - you still need to have some sort of data plan with them... Had to be something...

The AT&T $450 price is for a locked handset. You still have to go onto a plan with AT&T, it just doesn't have to be a 24-month contract. That is, the price is still subsidised.

I am more going for the lumia because nokia has a good record of updates to phones for the lumia range (and nokia maps etc is great).
HTC I am not sure about, and really don't want the Samsung Ativ S as I have a S3 and samsung are slow at getting updates out, they are ok for flagship phones but as soon as they release the next one they forget about updates for older things (or updates are really slow).

I've read that review and came to the same conclusion, it was a very superficial biased review.  It would seem that most of the comments on that article support my thoughts. e.g.

"Why are these even called Tech Blogs. Looks like 99% of the authors do not even know ABCD of technology. He is comparing a phone that told people "you are holding our camera wrong way" Vs a PureView technology. These same dumb reviewers supported iPhone's earliest version of dumbbell phones to be 'quality' and find the same thing wrong when it comes to different manufacturers. Bias is OK on certain levels. Stooping down to a level where technology becomes obsolete is not what is expected out of Tech Blogs. This is my first comment (apologize for being harsh) as normally I don't think this website even deserves comments."

I find the complaints about weight ridiculous. I love a heavier phone, it usually speaks of good build quality.

And they're not even that heavy, I found this image summed it up nicely!

GSMArena review of the 8X - http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_windows_phone_8x-review-844.php

There are some OS updates that could be added like:
- separate volume levels for alarm, music, calls, etc
- better refresh of music & video lists

No Nokia navigation as far as I'm aware, but that may be updated later.

Otherwise, a good little phone, a good size, a good feel, a good weight. The colour options are good too, the blue is nice.

Actually, what a stupid comparison. A phone plus slices of ham?

I think it's demonstrating how insignificant the extra weight is, or something.
