FishOfPrey:
Litespeed: Compass is STILL poked.

I'd put together a longer answer about the issues with the Compass in the Southern Hemisphere in a separate thread - Windows Phone 7 compass not pointing north (http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=6&topicid=106085&page_no=1#659978)

TL;DR Try my Compass Bearing App (http://windowsphone.com/s?appid=97b39bf8-c24f-4125-9d45-444ab01fbc53). It does the magnetic declination calculation independently of the phone.

Incidentally, I've tried a few WP8 handsets in retail stores. On the 820 at least the issue appears to be resolved. Plus the gyro sensor gives much more stable compass readings when using the Motion API.

I tried your app and it helps but my issue is that the problem is still in the underlying OS.

GregV: How is battery life on 7.8 for everyone? I find that mine seems to be draining faster since the upgrade. But it may just be because I am using it more

My HTC Mozart battery life took quite a dive, from lasting often up to 24 hours, down to about 8 -9 hours.

I disabled the live tile notifications for two cartoon strip apps (by 'App Rabbit') and the battery drain now seems to be back to pre 7.8 levels.

Just plugged my Trophy in after exactly 36hrs since last charge... My Battery life has improved since 7.8 update, possibly due to me culling many tiles...

Hmmm I think I've noticed my battery life has improved a bit since the update as well! Its only half empty when I plug it in at night

Btw I've added my girlfriend as a contact on my home screen in the smallest tile size. Its now got a little white 1 on the top right corner, anyone know what this means and how I can get rid of it? I've tried everything to get rid of it but its still there

Tha means there's an incoming communication from her - either a SMS, or email... Open the tile and slide to "History".

This is expected behaviour and worked like this since Windows Phone 7 was released.

Ah ok I never had a contact as a live tile before, looked through history but it didn't change anything. Will try again thanks

You will have to open the item the history is pointing as new - a new SMS means you have to tap on it and as soon as the Messaging app opens the flag goes away.

I've read everything already from her, ended up just removing the tile and re-adding it and the 1 is gone

Got given an HD7 as a work phone today. Got it to do the update to 7.8 this morning. Took ages to get it updated because I had to do the update, disconnect from internet, reconnect to internet, install update thing about 6 times to get all the updates. Seems nice. Still getting used to the differences compared to android. I keep swiping down on the top of the screen to find notifications

"Your phone is up to date".

I beg to differ.

Got sick of waiting for an update in one of the phones, unplugged the ethernet, was presented with an update, clicked the button to install... And when the phone restarted Windows complained "driver not installed" and bricked the damn thing.

Wonderful. Thank you Microsoft.

Still waiting for my update. The ethernet trick doesn't work with macs... I am not sure what is worse for a geek.

After 15 minutes the phone rebooted by itself and now says update completed - to 8773. So not sure I want to go and try again to update to 7.8 or just uninstall Zune and be happy this thing is not dead.

And yes, I still think Microsoft has made a big mess of this whole update thing. Not funny. Actually pretty sad after all the promises they made about updates and all.

Well, forget about this. Next phone for wife is going to be an iPhone. Removing Zune from my laptop. I hope to never have to hear about this piece of badly written software again.

Have you used iTunes on Windows?  It will make you weep for Zune.

And it's pretty terrible on OS X too.
