My wife has just upgraded to the HTC Snap in the Telecom XT.  It's a WinMo 6.1 device.  She has a data plan and we have WiFi at home.  naturally when she's at home, she doesn't want to be using up her mobile data plan when she has free wifi in the next room.

Will the Snap automatically choose WiFi over the HSDPA when it's in range?  That is, can I set the network preference order?

You can't set the order yourself, but Windows Mobile will always use the "cheaper" options (ActiveSync Passthrough, WiFi) first then mobile data last.

Hey Litespeed, kinda related - has your wife had any issues with the wifi coming and going on the snap? Mine seems to keep dropping the signal and picking it back up again on a very regular basis.

This is quite common on any network if there's channel interference. Maybe you should change your router's configuration and use another channel.

Not that I know of but freitasm's ideas might be worth checking out.

Thanks guys. I found part of the problem, there's a setting which turns off the wifi when the screen turns off, so I fixed that up. It does also drop the connection when I'm using it though, so will have a play with router settings in the weekend.

If you leave your WiFi on and have this setting, then don't expect a much long battery life...

Has anyone been able to unlock this handset for addition of unsigned software? - I have tried a number of HTC related unlock apps and while I can get a Registry app on to it, it won't allow me to save any registry edits (specifically security policies). Any ideas appreciated. On second thoughts I'll start a new topic Sorry can't delete this.

Hi, how are you finding your HTC Snap? I'm thinking of buying one.

I want to use for calendar (sync to PC), phone, txt, pxt & video, email, viewing Microsoft office files very occasionally and also as a modem occassionally. Have your wife used all of these?

What's the camera like?

Any frustrations, except for wifi dropping out?
