Don't like the front too much but then, he did not show the bottom of the phone on video. Nokia said, they will be launching 12 WP7 models in 2012 so I am going to wait till Q1 2012 and hopefully a 12MP camera Nokia WP7 device will be out by then.

Looks pretty nice. But im torn now. I think the N9 looked much nicer with Meego. I think wp7 is great. But now ive been watching all these vids on the N9 i might just have to go for the Meego, it just looks better. Doesnt really bother me if it doesnt get too much developer supprt. I didn't want to say it but it's made me think my WP7 looks.... ugly. Damnit! why did they have to show the N9. If they just showed a fully working sea ray device i would have been stoked for it.

one of the websites showed the full unit and the three 'hardware' buttons were actually software buttons... so obviously n9 hardware with a few mods to run wp7.  apparently it is a temporary beta testing thing - they will redo the chassis with the real buttons at some point.

I had a look at the photo. looks very ugly and most blogs said that the image looked most likely a fake. Infact the software buttons looked very similar to the buttons in the WP7 emulator.

The N9 release certainly raises a few questions, some reviewers are asking why the need for WP7.  The release of Nokia WP7 phones is a foregone conclusion.  However it will be interesting to see what happens with Meego with the reception the N9 has received so far, some of Nokias biggest critics have been quite complimentary.

I don't want to upset any WP7 fans, however I think that Meego has set a standard that WP7 needs to exceed when Nokia release their WP7 phones otherwise WP7 is going to really struggle to gain any traction.  Who knows, the developments seen in Meego on the N9 may be incorporated into WP7.

What ever happens Nokia know they have a platfrom in Meego that can compete with the other major platforms, it would be quite easy to switch to Meego if necessary.

The Meego N9 looks very slick and I think will attract a good following.

As for developer support for the N9.  It supports apps built on the QT framework so most apps done in QT  but not specifically made for the N9 should work.  Even more interesting is the info in this link which says that you will be able to run any Android apps on the N9.

I really liked couple of things from the meego video/presentation. The double tap on the screen feature to wake up the device and the widescreen Carl Zeiss Camera which took that stunning photograph of the newspaper lying on the desk. It really did take a widescreen angle photo of it as the video camera itself could not cover the top of the newspaper. I am sure the same camera will also make it's way to the first Nokia WP7 device that was shown by Elop.

I saw few articles today from various blogs saying that Elop is saying that Meego will eventually be dropped even if it is a success. I don't know where they got this from, as from his previous interviews, he mentioned that 3 or 4 meego devices will be released by 2014. I think 2 OS can exist in the Nokia world. They are big enough to market and distribute both OS's at grand scale. If WP7 did not existed, I was going to go for webOS this year as it was my 2nd choice. Meego just moved to 2nd spot for me :-)

I agree, the two OS's could live side by side.  Other manufacturers use more than one OS.  If Meego is a success I don't think Nokia will drop it, there is no sense in that.  Plus it leaves the way open for another handset manufacturere to jump in and use Meego, though I guess there's nothing stopping that from happening anyhow.

Without wanting to hijack the thread too much, Meego has a confirmed future as an OS as it has been chosen by the likes of GM and other manufacturers to run the systems in their vehicles, as well as Acer and Asus and other tablet manufacturers releasing Meego powered tablets.

I feel sure there will be more Nokia Meego powered devices.

As for WebOS, I've been a fan of Palm products for many years though they lost their way towards the end. The Palm OS was generally stable and good to use and their PIM management was very good, as a result I'd look at WebOS, pity their new phones so far haven't inspired me, though the new tablets look quite good.
