the usual Windows Phone bashing/uninformed option aside... It is immensely frustrating trying to get any info out of any of the big carriers. Vodafone have 0 information on their website, the Windows Phone page links to the iPhone page (awesome). They announced they were selling the Omnia W in October, it didn't arrive in November or December and it is now meant to be mid Jan. The story I heard for this was it was all Samsung's fault - Vodafone CSRs now say they have no idea of availability. Vodafone did sell the Trophy originally I believe. Telecom is supposedly getting the Nokia Lumia 710s and 800s, but again no announcement, no info on their website. From what I have been reading Mango has been doing well in Europe and is just starting to hit in any really big way stateside with carriers getting the Lumia 710, HTC Radar etc. and with Microsoft/Nokia doing a massive marketing push (probably starting at CES on the 10th). For Voda and Telecom - I guess they don't see a lot of point. Windows Phone is a tiny piece of the market compared to Android and iPhone. They all seem to be going for the mid range handsets (710 and the Omnia W) as I suspect the high end handsets (HTC Titan) are an even smaller piece of the pie. End result - if and when Voda launch the Omnia W I am expecting their price to be ridiculous (even with discounts) so will probably end up getting one parallel imported.

Personally, I think the lack of energy they are putting into it is distracting buyers and hard for people to see Windows Mobile as a viable purchase option. For what it's worth, I really like my Trophy 7 :-) I totally agree. And yes, I love my Trophy 7.5 as well and I look forward to further improvements.

So everybody else is annoyed/confused/dumbfounded by all the marketing hype and complete and absolute lack of consideration and delivery, not just me. I cant understand how in this age the providers are still trying to control our choice of handset. I'll just go back to an iPhone or parallel WinPhone, possibly, and give MS a chance to decide if they actually are serious about WinPhones, so far, I think it's going to be another Zune. In case anybody from MS/Voda is reading (or giving a sh!t), it'll be another year before I get another handset. Thanks for everybodies input.

As a further follow-up, I just took a trip, with Credit Card in hand looking for a Windows Phone: Dick Smith - none, no ETA. Noel Leeming - none, no ETA. Bond and Bond - none, no ETA. Vodafone - none, no ETA and a very long backorder list. Two Degrees - none, no intention of stocking. This is why I don't go to Microsoft product launches. Does anybody reading this have an alternate provider in mind, not paralell imported, based in NZ, who can supply, support and service a Windows Phone? Many thanks.

None of the carriers in NZ have any Windows Phone devices left AFAIK (Telecom might still have the LG Optimuz 7Q) in stock but it's last years model. otherwise: expansys, clove etc.. Update: clove = 275 pounds (with shipping) ~ 6 days = NZ$544 expansys (with shipping) ~ 5 days = NZ$624 parallelimported don't have the Omnia, but do have the Radar. Both say they have stock now - so maybe Voda will start getting some in soon. Though I imagine Voda will sell them for ~ $700-800? I don't think it's a Microsoft issue that availability is so average - who controls that?

With massive risk of making an off-topic post in my own thread: I dont think it's a Microsoft fault that there are no handsets either, that's not my point. When big companies have big launches and promise the end to all frustration then deliver little, that launch in itself is a product we all pay for (launches and guest speakers aren't free). When the launch and the deployment malign and vary, the end users pays for the variance, somehow, indireclty. The launch is an investment of customers money in getting more customers to reduce overheads, covered by customers. I don't go to product launches because more often than not, the fanfare exceeds the delivery and then I have wasted a day and have a half baked product. I have already wasted more than a week getting Vodafone or LG to even pretend they care that I cant make a call in Hamilton consistently, now I am just pissed I have started to realise that even as a plan customer, I have to suck it up and live with it or become a churn statistic. The way I see it, a launch partner should have all the answers or Microsoft made a mistake choosing that launch partner. Either way, it would be much more respectful if the organisation that made the error just manned up and said so. I guess I'm going back to Apple or Telecom as I need a working phone this week - which knee should I shoot myself in, left or right? /rant /thread

The only thing that has put me off buying one is price, I really want the Nokia phone to play with I had a go with the 7.0 version that someone had at a party but not enough to get a real feel. I went into phones 4 u in the UK the other day and the Lumia 800 was $800 so out of my price range at the moment but has come down. Someone has probably noted that Microsoft is putting alot of money towards incentives for handsets sold in the states. I am sure if the marketing was right and the phone was the right prices they would be able to sell them. Over here in the UK Blackberry is the phone of choice for young people some reason (I can only think the messaging service) and in nz you will only see them in the hands of business people. I would not buy one anyway. Unless you have had a real go of something for a week or longer you don't know what it is capable of, but its got to be the right price too. This post didn't interest me much initially, however, my HTC Trophy just up and died a few days ago :( Looking for warranty info to put a claim in (pretty sure it is <12 months old), but was scouting for a possible replacement (hence my new-found interest in this thread). Disappointing that there are very few on offer. Hopefully the Nokia models hit our shore soon.

I am at CES in Vegas right now. They have most of the newest Windows Phones on show here and the selection is fantastic. From the Samsung i937 (very similar to Galaxy SII), Nokia Lumia 900 (not actually on display but I got my hands on it), HTC Titan, etc. When all the phones are lined up together it shows that Windows Phone is a serious platform. I asked Nokia's CEO about access to their phones he mentioned they're coming to NZ too but that Nokia are also exploring other channels - so maybe in the future they'll have online or physical Nokia stores where we can get phones instead if waiting for carriers.
