No, the Nokia Lumia 800 has two variants:

• European Variant - WCDMA HSPA 900/1900/2100 MHz (RM-801)
• US Variant - WCDMA HSPA 850/1900/2100 MHz (RM-819)

Then Nokia could be fairly accused of misleading advertising:

http://www.nokia.com/nz-en/products/phone/lumia800/specifications/

Clearly the impression one gains here is that the Lumia 800 is a quad-band WCDMA device.

Therefore it would be prudent for Nokia to amend this asap.

No doubt the two major carriers will be quietly pleased that neither variant will work fully on the other's network. Any consumer buying this phone with the impression that they can use it with the opposition network I suspect won't be very happy to find out later...

Vodafone now has the Nokia Lumia 800 in the 'Coming soon' section of the website. $100 off for the first 50 orders online only

http://www.vodafone.co.nz/coming-soon/

edit - typo there. $100 off. not $100 for the device.

Some announcements from Nokia today:

The Lumia range will also benefit from the launch of new signature Nokia experiences on the Windows Phone platform:

  • Nokia Reading is the next milestone in Nokia's strategy to offer a comprehensive entertainment experience on Lumia. Nokia Reading provides a single, integrated hub experience, leveraging a panorama design to make it easier and faster to enjoy news, ebooks and audio books, including the ability to access content offline and pin dynamic content to the start screen as a Live Tile. With an emphasis on local language materials wherever it becomes available, Nokia Reading delivers a highly personalized and locally relevant service. Future updates will include the ability to build dynamic magazines from feeds for a single integrated view of favourite online content. With no sign-in or subscriptions, Nokia Reading will be available from April.
  • Nokia Transport, coming to Lumia for the first time, provides convenient door-to-door, underground, tram, suburban train, and bus directions for over 500 cities across 46 countries. With step-by-step directions to the nearest station as well as timetable information on when the next bus or train is arriving for more than 80 cities, Nokia Transport will be available to download from the Windows Phone Marketplace in March.
  • A new update to Nokia Drive, the free voice-guided, turn by turn navigation app that turns any Lumia smartphone into a personal navigation device will provide full offline use and features speed limit alerts. The update will also be available to download from the Windows Phone Marketplace in March.

This is more directed at Nokia - when might we expect to see a Lumia with more than 16GB of storage? I have 160GB+ worth of music thus I really need the extra storage. Right now the only option I have is the iPhone but I'd like an another option on the table when I upgrade my phone in the near future - is there an ETA on when phones will appear from Nokia with more storage space?

MacBook Pro 13.3" Mid-2012; iMac 3.4Ghz 27-inch (BTO) Late-2012; iPhone 5S 'Space Grey' (64GB); Airport Extreme Base Station 802.11ac; Draytek Vigor 130 VDSL2 Modem.

Hi Kawaii,

We only ever comment on announced devices sorry.

In terms of getting access to all your music anywhere, there are services like Spotify, which is due in New Zealand in the near future, which will stream your collection over the air should you need.

Or Rdio, which is available in New Zealand now, and has a Windows Phone app already in the market.

By the way, talking about streaming your music content instead of using local storage...

When I first got a Windows Phone device moving from my old Windows Mobile 6.5 I doubled my data plan from 250MB to 500MB. When I updated my device to Mango I doubled it again to 1GB. And that's without using streaming.

It would be nice if Nokia implemented the automatic WiFi usage they have in their Symbian and Meego OS, the usage in the last couple of months on a Nokia N9 was reduced by half.

RDIO doesn't support streaming your previously bought collection in the current version as far as I can see.

You can use the desktop application to match your collection and then you can use that - although their desktop application is a hit and miss.

From what I can see it only matches and plays on your PC, not OTA back to your handset.
