Hey guys never really had much to do with the PS3 before but after going to get an xbox 360(and seeing how inferior to the ps3 it is!!) i decided to splurge on a PS3 slimline 250GB with Uncharted 2 and COD 4.

Got it connected to my network reasonably easily and im shooting away online.

Now im wanting to stream media to it from my pc, but have run into a brick wall.

i have gone through all the sharing steps on WMP 11 but still no joy.  The PS3 sees my pc for shared files, but cannot find any files or folders in the pc.

However, when i start up WMP11 there is a process running called WMPnetwork or something, which makes me wonder is the pc still "sorting through" the files and making them available for networking to the PS3.  Id guess if this is the case I should be ok to stream my media once this is done?

I have enable UPnP on my windows firewall, but not on my NOD32 as yet(cant find the tab for this lol) so it could be a software firewall issue.  ill try turning NOD off tonight and see if there is any progress.

The other(unrelated) issue is I was wondering what keyboard/mice combo you guys use for your PS3s?
When I play COD on it i get mashed online as I find the joypad is pretty avg compared to a mouse in terms of accuracy.

Im assuming any el cheapo bluetooth keyboard/mouse combo will work like a charm on the ps3????

Thanks in advance

Hi,

In WMP11, once you connect the PS3, you'll have to re set up sharing(not library)
Goto Media sharing, click the Ps3 console(it'll be Unknown system with a yellow triangle) right click it and choose "allow sharing" it might be blocked at the moment.

Also, for the folders you wish to share, enable network sharing, goto the folder in My Computer, right click and choose Share. That way you'll definitely be able to see the folders on the PS3.

have you got the latest firmware 3.01? I've noticed it does take longer for the PS3 to refresh the library now. You go to a folder and the little clock in the upper right spins around, but usually only a few seconds for each folder to display.

Keyboard/mouse combo is a tricky one, I've got Logitech laser mouse and wireless keyboard. but i don't use it. I've found after a few hours, I'm actually better at COD on PS3 than PC now :S

Hrm I already share my media with my laptop and other various network devices so my media files are already shared.

I have already selected the "unknown device" ie ps3 in WMP11 and added the files to the library manually as you have mentioned.

If you're still using Windows Vista, I have heard that PS3 Media Server is much better. I am using Windows 7 RC and found its media sharing service is doing great with PS3.

+1 for that. IMO it is the best for media streaming for PS3. Works 'out of the box'

If you're not planning to upgrade to Windows 7, then I highly recommend PS3 Media Server or TVersity.

But if you're planning to go for Windows 7 (which it is a great improvement over Windows XP and Vista, honestly) then you won't have to worry too much about getting 3rd party media sharing service; Windows 7 does it well.

Any USB or Bluetooth keyboard/mouse will work on the PS3 - but pretty much limited to the web browser or entering information in the XMB interface.  I don't know of any titles that support keyboard and mouse natively off the top of my head.

You can buy adaptors that convert a keyboard and mouse to appear as a Sixaxis controller, or you can get something like the FragFX which is half controller half mouse.  I picked one up when they were on sale and I have to say it's not great but it does improve things a bit.  I haven't _really_ had much of a go with using it in a FPS (I don't own any, I play FPS's on my PC - but I tried it in the Resistance demo) but the reason I got it was to maybe have a go with some of the PS3 exclusive titles when I get a bunch of spare time :)  Apparently though they did design it with COD4 in mind and it's supposed to work quite well with that.  I have never played COD4 so I wouldn't know.

AFAIK Unreal Tournament is one of the few games that natively supports mouse and keyboard.

Yeah and Call of Duty 4 supports keyboard/mouse, COD5 doesn't, but in my opinion it's easier playing with the joypad after a while anyway :)

You might need to open up the ports on your ADSL/Router to allow the PS3 media server to access your PC also, do a search on google for "PS3 Media ports" and it'll bring up lots of guides

I recently got a PS3 and had zero luck getting it to work with WMP11 or Tversity no matter how much I fiddled.
However, I downloaded PS3 Media Server and it worked straightaway. It was also incredibly easy to setup whoich folders you want to share too. The quality of the video is good too. It can stream 720p
+1 for PS3 Media Server.

I found using keyboard/mouse for console games to be pretty crappy. I like to slouch on my couch playing PS3 and a keyboard/mouse is pretty hard to do that with.

Yeah PS3 media server is good, bit different to the XBox360 for transcoding,

With the XBox in Media centre, you press square to transcode, in PS3 Media centre, you need to go into the #transcode folder and play the top file :)
