yep its a rather inconvenient time alright! but thats how it goes living on this side of the world i guess.

The question is... stay up late or try and get out of bed around 2am to start the D/L. i want that bad boy finished by 5pm friday, the servers are going to be overloaded to the extreme, so i figure giving it 18~ hours should be enough

Gonna get up around 1 to start the download, if its gonna be finished by mid-morning considering staying home

edit: not sure if allowed to post this but... http://games.on.net/file/45410/Battlefield_3_Open_Beta_Client
I recognise the hosts from blops and BC2 servers as well as 6k+ downloads so should be legit

hmmmmm to try that or not!

Heres the instructions for any keen enough!

0: First, you need Origin, EA's distribution platform. Download it here.

1: Launch Origin.

2: Check your Origin settings (click the 'cog' icon near the top right of the Origin screen and select 'settings' from the drop-down menu).

3: In the settings, note the directory for 'downloaded games'. By default it is "C:\Program Files\Origin Games" or "C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games" depending on the version of Windows you have.

4: Close Origin by clicking the cog icon and selecting 'exit' from the drop-down menu. You need to exit entirely, not just minimise the program.

5: Extract the archive contents to the directory you identified at step 3.

6: Once the extraction is complete, rename the 'Battlefield 3 Open Beta' directory to 'Battlefield 3 Beta' (if it's not already).

7: Check that the archive extracted properly. You should see a directory C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 3 Beta (or similar, depending on step 3) that has 6 files including bf3.exe and 4 sub-directories including Core and Data.

8: Start Origin and log in. You should now see Battlefield 3 as 'Ready to Install'. Click on that orange 'Ready to Install' button.

9: Done!

Nope no ready to install, did use slightly different directionary. My downloaded games was program files/electronic arts

Trying to launch exe gives some activation required thing in origin, will probably have to wait for it to go live for it to work?

Have downloaded it successfully, and copied extracted files into the folder mentioned, no installer comes up or anything when you reopen origin, so i cant be sure if it has worked or not till the beta goes live.

so your friend is in the closed beta i assume?
In origin, did you put the files in the directory specified in "select where to install your games" or in "select where to store your game installers" im guessing its the first one?
