I am considering installing Linux on my PS3 so I can try out running some dedicated PVR/Mediacenter type apps on it like MythTV. I was under the impression that since the “install Other OS” feature was removed from the PS3 that this was no longer possible but a quick google search turned up many links such as:

This makes it look exceptionally easy to do. Is this for real?

Would you bother?

One reason i would like to try this is to sidestep file compatibility issues with certain media files like Freeview Transport Stream files with HE-AAC audio that do not play back natively on the PS3 XMB Am I wasting my time?
