Hi all,

Does anyone here have any recommendations for laptop coolers?

I used to have a Belkin one, which had one fan, and it seemed to work ok until the fan started to hit the something which caused a loud clicking sound.. now it doesn't work.

I then bought one off trademe, which had one huge fan, but it is hopeless, and doesn't keep the temperature down at all.

Just curious if anyone can recommend a brand..

A Laptop shouldn't overheat at all. if your laptop is overheating I would get it replaced/refunded/fixed under the NZ CGA.

You say its getting hot? Does this actually affect it working in anyway?

Thanks

I brought a Notepal shortly prior to going to work in the Solomon Islands in 2008. It gets pretty damn hot and sticky over there but the cooler worked like a charm and I never had any heat related issues with my laptop. I've taken it to SE Asia a few times too so it's well travelled and it still works well.

Here in Wellington there's a not really any need to have a laptop cooler but I find it useful for the angle it puts the laptop keyboard on.

EDIT: I brought this model through Expansys.

It doesn't over heat to the point where it effects anything that I know of, just that where my hands rest next to the touchpad, when it has been playing a Blu-Ray, or a game, gets really hot and starts to smell a bit like something is burning.  I thought that the cooler the system was, the better it was for the hardware..

Try install a temperature monitoring utility like SpeedFan in order to monitor the current temps your cpu, gpu and hdd are getting to.

I also second needing a laptop cooler. My laptop never gets to hot to handle but more than hot enough in a nz summer (even a this wet thing we call summer at the moment), to cause my legs/lap to get all sweaty. I am away from home at the mo but have an aluminium one with two fans not sure which brand but works a treat, my only beef is that it's not very comfortable on my legs.

I also had no need for a cooler but liked the altered angle of the keyboard.

I purchased a cheapie to try from trademe last June - $5.95 - now $7.90. It is still working fine.

e.g. trademe #439327500

Depends on the size of your laptop and I also believe, as with anything, you get what you pay for. I had a Dell XPS M1730 and got one of these for it -

Still use it with my Alienware M18X, and it works very well. Very quiet, sits on my lap comfortably flat.
