Ive just purchased a new PC which is on its way to me. Now I did not get it for gaming, its for multimedia but im wondering if maybe it still might be on par with my Xbox 360 graphics wise so maybe I can get rid of the 360.

PC is:
i5 3570 Ivy Bridge 3.40Ghz
8gb ram
ASUS Gforce GT640 video card
SSD hard drive

I know GT640 is not really a gaming card but if i compared an up coming game like Assassins Creed 3 and put video card to 720p like the 360 would be should I expect similar results on a 55 inch TV.

Or is Xbox still going to be better.

I don't think the Xbox has quite as much overhead when running a game but you should be able to get roughly the same or slightly better performance from the PC that nVidia card isn't that much of a slouch either it's still far better than the graphics chip in the Xbox and you should be able to use AA and Aniso for a much better picture quality

The GPU in the 360 is a ~5 year old 500Mhz unit with pretty restricted RAM, the Asus is a 900Mhz unit with (probably) 1GB DDR3 RAM. It's not quite a direct comparison, but it'd be pretty safe to assume that the Asus will easily match or beat anything the 360 could cope with.

Most 360 games are only rendered at 720p, or less (Halo3 was "only" rendered at 640p & then upscaled in hardware)

You should be able to happily run most games in true 720p, but with higher quality settings.

That said, I'm pretty impressed with the quality they are getting out of games from the now quite old Xbox360/PS3 consoles.

"You are" = "You're" - Not "Your".  "They are" = "They're" - Not "Their" or "There".  You probably mean "lose" not "loose".  There's no such word as "Alot".
