Topic # 113846 29-Jan-2013 20:34 Send private message

My parents are attempting to move from Telecom phone to VFX but Levin is not a VFX region, xnet have been great and gone through some options for them, I'm trying to come up with options to solve their issue.

After some information/advice if anyone has any details:

Can anyone tell me what the cause is for 5 calling areas in NZ to not allow porting to VFX? Is it exchange equipment that will be resolved at some point or something else?

One option is setup and forward the number to an VFX Palmerston North number which is not ideal as their local calls are now toll calls. Anyone know the costs for setting up Telecom to forward a number to another provider?

According to 2talk website they have Levin as a region and states all their regions are number portable so appears that is another option (weird they seem to do it but not Xnet?). http://blog.2talk.co.nz/regionalnumbers.html

Thanks,

WxC obviously don't have an interconnect and equipment in place for that area. It's nothing to do with "exchange equipment" or anything preventing porting.

There are just over on 100 LICA's ( local interconnect calling areas in NZ) and last time I looked 2talk didn't service some of the smaller ones either.

There is the odd rumour that 2talk don't stick to the NAD (number administration deed) so they may be "breaking" the rules... I would have thought XNET could have told you the reason. They are very good normally with that sort of stuff

For whatever reason, Levin is a particularly difficult place to cover with new IP products that support VOIP etc. I expect this will be dealt to once UFB steamrolls in...

Steve's explanation made much more sense than mine!

I've been with Fusion for a few years now and told them this was the way to go, when Dad talked to xnet about changing over got very unexpected surprise to hear number could not be ported, threw spanner in the works so didn't get into too many specifics.

I was just doing some investigation into options before going back to xnet and stumbled across 2talk details.

It may be worth PMing Maverick - he is usually pretty helpful with these things.

Steve is correct Kships, to offer local number services (this includes the ability to port numbers) you must have a physical local interconnection point refereed to as a POI (Point of Interconnect) at the local Telecom exchange which at this time we do not. The current areas we do not have POI (Points of Interconnect) are Levin, Wanganui and Greymouth.

There is a project underway to have these included, Greymouth will be in the next couple of weeks but Levin is still a little while away I'm afraid, very sorry we couldn't help and the team here didn't fully explain the circumstances why.

Yes I am a employee of WxC (My Profile) ... but I do have my own opinions as well Wink

Thanks guys. Like I mentioned guy on the phone was very helpful, would have been no point going into any tech detail on the phone, I was just after those details for my curiosity.
