Hi,

Is it possible to switch your homeline phone number to VFX without outage?

I can't get fusion right now because my homeline is with Slingshot, so I'm hoping to be able to switch our homeline number that everyone knows to VFX and gain the additional services, and effectively stop using the homeline for calling... (the homeline will be a handy second line)

I'd be interested if anyone has done this successfully, and how... and even more interested to know if you experienced any issues...

Thanks,
Kerrin

Last year I went through a lengthy process to do exactly what you are wanting, but:

-  There was a lengthy outage with my internet service
-  It took around 3 weeks all up from start to finish
-  I had to keep checking and phoning up to make sure it was all done correctly
(on more than one occasion -- it wasn't)

My phone line is with Telstra Clear.

TBH, I would recommend that you take your phone line back to Telecom because they can do it all so much more quickly and easily than working through a 3rd party like Slingshot.  Moving your line back to Telecom can be done within a day or two and it will cost you a $45 "re-connection" fee.  Don't ask me why, it seems stupid because your line is already connected, but this is the fee which applies.

Once your line is back with Telecom, of course you can sign-up for Fusion, which will take care of the porting issue as well.  I think you will find it is by far the simplest and fastest option.

Check to see if you have a 2nd pair coming into you home. You could then get N-DSL installed on that, thus a temporary overlap of 2x DSL connections. Then port your number to VFX (porting the number should be no problem), that will then collapse your Slingshot Internet, and you'll carry on on your new VFX/Fusion service.

Alternatively, get call diversion immediate loaded onto your line (and drop any other services). Get a new VFX number, divert all calls and your away yakking. Then do the full switch when it can all happen.

Chorus has spent $1.4 billion on making their ADSL broadband network faster. Why not spend a couple of hundred to make sure you are getting the most out of your connection?

Just get the VFX hardware and use it in addition to your normal phone line.  Receive calls on your normal line, make outgoing calls on your VFX line.  Then you have confidence in everything working before you go to Fusion in a few months.  There is currently still no VFX rental for XNet customers, so it will cost you absolutely nothing extra (other than the hardware).

This is my current setup now, however now keen to utilize the incoming phone features like call waiting, messaging, and caller id... and don't want to change our primary number...   Also don't want people seeing the VFX number and starting to use it long term...   Had a few issues with my DSL line and pap2t device dropping off at the start, however now all stable and we're confident to proceed on with VFX...

Unfortunately we don't, only a single pair in the box outside...

Excellent idea...   though not sure if Slingshot offer this? - will ring tomorrow and find out...   Suspect though that I'd loose the originating caller id in the process?  which would defeat the purpose...

If your stuck on a real old exchange, then you will lose the originating call ID, but most newer exchanges will pass this on through the diversion.
Also, so no one gets your VFX number, you just block you out going CID using the settings in the VFX web portal.
