Topic # 20134 14-Mar-2008 11:19 Send private message

This is mainly directed towards Maverick, as he had a meeting with a Linksys rep yesterday.

Is there a supply problem with Linksys equipment, mainly that supported by Xnet? I placed an order for WAG54GP2 over a month ago with my distie (rather large distie), and still no stock.. I now have 4 on backorder and 4 slightly cranky (with me, not Xnet) customers who are itching to set up with Xnet (new to broadband, so no 'old' equipment to use in the mean time) Laughing

Did the rep say anything about this at all Maverick? Is NZ missing out for some reason?

Cheers!

No not really, it was just a supply issue due to a very high demand suddenly for linksys devices, caught everybody off guard as well, dist, retail and suppliers.

As Maverick mentioned, we have had an increase in demand locally for Linksys products.  There is currently stock available in the greater channel, although not in the same quantities as you'd usually expect on our VoIP products in particular.  At this point it looks like we'll have solid supplies available in country next month.

In the interim, here's a few tips for sourcing the products:

If you are a reseller, then check both of our Distributors.  Ingram Micro and Express Data are the local distributors.  Note, only IT resellers can purchase from these companies.

If you are an end user, do a good search online for the product - some stores carry stock, others supply a feed of the distributor stock.  It's also worthwhile to note that PB technologies stocks a large range of Linksys VoIP products and almost always have product on hand.  Selected Dick Smith stores also stock our VoIP products.

To add my 2c, in the electronic components industry it is normal to wait 6 to 8 weeks for a shipment of components.  Consumers often do not understand why it takes so long, but it is basically because companies have to make a profit and thus have to ship stock by sea.  The product that the end user pays $200 for actually cost less than $50 to manufacture and thus air shipping is just not feasible.  Also, factories can not suddenly manufacture larger quantities, because they also have to source the components and carry enough stock but not too much.  So I would say there it is normal to have to weight 2 months before you get it (or one month, since it is already on it's way).

That fits.. Not had trouble sourcing Linksys in the past. All of a sudden this year everyone seems to be following the flock to Linksys.

Cheers all.

An update. Basically, it sounds like Linksys were going to discontinue this model (WAG54GP2) and maybe others in the range. By the time they realised the error of there ways they had no parts left to produce more. They will be making more, but are awaiting parts etc. I've been told maybe 4-5 weeks.

Electronic components usually take 4 to 8 weeks to deliver, so fits with the time frame.
NeoTech, where did you get the info?

If you look on the linksys.co.nz page there are new gateways and routers being advertised but I have not seen them on any retailers lists as yet.  They look cool and I want one Laughing  Its all about the flashy lights and the bling

One of the previously mentioned distributors. Spoke to the product manager this morning. I have some on order. I guess the issue is an all-in-one product with voice ports. Not everyone has a need for them at present.

When are you going to certify the Netgear DG834GV all in one VOIP Routers, the DG834G are brillant, we have sold hundreds and always had amazing results with, and unlike the Linksys have a good router in them.

Netgear always have stock, so this would help with the Linksys product delays as well (TechPac are out of SPA922's as well for a month.)

We have looked at them but Netgear provisioning dosn't allow us to support them at this point, we cant control configs everything has to be done by netgear on the voice side and this is not accepatable

Weird, they have sent me a config file for the netgear, and it has the same settings that the Linksys products have (provisioning URL, provisioning download time, and all the other settings I can see in the Linksys products) but I'm not a VOIP guru.

Did they say they could fix their product to work the way you want it to?

We have had clients we sold the WAG54GP2 to that we had to refund because it couldn't connect (they were a long way from the exchange) but their crappy Dlink could.
