My Orcon phone is fussy about matching address book contacts with caller ID in that the two numbers must match identically.

I've noticed that the caller ID on my VFX is coming through with a leading 0 at the start, which causes the two numbers not to match.

eg... 009xxxyyyy

If I look in the phone logs the display name shows as 09xx, but the number when you drill in is actually showing 009xx.

I've also noticed forwarded calls to mobile come through with the 009xx also.

Is this normal? Any way to stop the initial 0, or is it important somehow?

Hello Kerrin

You should have a feature on your phone handset that says "0 insertion" or something along these lines that adds a "0" to each caller ID, you will need to disable this setting then the correct caller ID will display. I have however struck the odd handset where this was unable to be turned off.

I have turned this off on both of my uniden cordless phones.

Just a matter of turning off "Insert 0" under global setup.  The uniden phone still managed to pick the names out of the address book with it turned on.

My Oricom M140 doesn't seem to have this function.   Might be time for an upgrade...

Stupid thing doesn't match unless the whole number matches...

We can make a change for you for call delivered to your number if the phone won't do this, PM your number and I will see what I can do, outbound calls shouldn't be going out with an extra 0, if you have one of these can you PM the date and time and I will take a look.

I've got a caller ID issue I'm not sure how to correct.

Things work fine for regular Telecom numbers calling me & the number will appear in the format 09XXXXXXX

However when a fellow VFX person calls me the number appears 9XXXXXXX. If I hit redial to call them back the phone wont correctly dial the number in that format (missing the leading 0). I then need to key it in manually. It is not a big issue, but I've got a few of my frineds & family onto VFX now so I do get a few fellow VFX calls.

Any suggestions guys?

Yes I think I can help, you raised a good point, I have actually made a change to a couple of things and you are the first one to be the recipient of this change .....Wink

Okay I just tried it. Incoming VFX calls still are missing the leading 0 but it seems I no longer need to dial that zero for an outgoing call anyway. I can just dial 9XXXXXXX & it will connect okay.

Thanks for that Toruemada we do try , but in saying that the issue was ours and should not have needed to be fixed in the first place, Bad CLI presentation is not acceptable, just glad it was brought to our attention, I prefer that all things were working correctly without needing to be fixed....Wink

Will this be applied to call notify emails? I have these go to my SMS email address, so come through as a text on my phone. I have to edit the phone number before calling, as there is no leading zero for VFX calls. This was still so at 14:43 today (and just tested again now).

Not a biggy, but would be a nice fix.

No Fraser, sorry no not at this stage, this actually relates to the number plan and is a little tricky, All NZ numbers don't actually start with 0, they start with the Area Code, so all VFX numbers are registered this way.


Will take a look though and see what i can address in the Backend but could be a bit of a major, seems simple I know but posssibly not.

Actually having +64 appended is a great idea for when you have the notifications sent to an SMS e-mail address while you are overseas with your ATA.  After all, it is part of you number anyway.

One day we might have to add another digit to specify the planet you are calling from, but that is a whole different topic.
