Hi WxC staffers,

Most other phone providers offer 2 hour capped domestic calling at either $2 or $2.50. Do world exchange plan to introduce this with VFX? (Effectively on VFX you're at $2 after only 40 minutes)

I read that for $19.95 super-cap can be added to VFX giving 1000 minutes, but that's not quite the same thing. (rather reducing the rate from 5c to 2c for the first 1000 mins.

Kind Regards,

Kerrin

[Moderator edit (tonyhughes): Added 2nd "p" to 'capped' - sounded like Batman worked there.... The Caped Caller Tongue out ]

Ya win some ya loose some:
E.G. on Telecom's anytime, the call is capped at $2, and is 14c per min. You reach $2 after only 15mins. On VFX it takes 40min to reach $2.

Chorus has spent $1.4 billion on making their ADSL broadband network faster. Why not spend a couple of hundred to make sure you are getting the most out of your connection?
Geekzone special price: $150* for master splitter install, normally $200+ through your ISP. Auckland and Waikato areas.
*Travel charges may apply. Additional costs may apply for complex installs.
I install - Naked DSL, DSL Master Splitters, VoIP, RBI Rural Broadband. Also a dealer for WorldxChange.

Hi Kerrin,

When I first joined up with VFX I thought that the lack of capped calling was the big downer, however the fact that you are only paying 5 cents per minute has meant that our phone bills have never been so low. Now that I have had a year with VFX I far prefer the 5 c / minute option.

Cheers,

Matt.

Thanks for pointing that out.   I appreciated that the VFX per minute rate was much cheaper than pstn offerings, but was looking more from this angle:
2 hours on VFX costs me $6, whereas 2 hours use to cost $2..

You are right though that you win some and you loose some...    eg. we use to be around $110-130 all up per month (line rental+adsl+tolls), now $75-95 on Fusion..  hence we win more than we loose, so have nothing to complain about...   (thanks WxC! Smile )

Truth be told, I'd actually prefer to see VFX's local calling eventually expanded to be national like Orcon and Vodafone are heading with their new @ home packages.

VOIP appears to be the way of the future.    And in my view a solid backend network is the key to making it work, which xnet appear to have...

This will come over time, as more providers move to VoIP. You will begin to see interconnect agreements between the providers, e.g. like a VoIP peering exchange type of thing. That's when "free" national calling will become a reality. Anyway, just my thoughts, I could be wrong; but voice is on it's way to becoming just another data service, like sending an email is.
