Evening!
Are there still WorldExchange people monitoring this forum?  I had a quick look through, and didn't see anything from Maverick.  Nicholas Cuc was active in June, but I'm told he has now left WxC.

I am very embarrased at the bad experience some friends of mine have had, after I recommended VFX.  They operate a business over three offices in Welington.  The woman who does the day to day management has no confidence using in technology at all.

They had been using HSI & 'free' VFX with few problems for 18 months in Tawa, and decided to move their Johnsonville office to Fusion.  Getting it going was a major problem, including being without a business phone for the best part of a week or so.  Eventually that got going.  Then WxC mis-read some of their own notes, and accidently moved Tawa to Fusion.  That was not so bad - only lost one day or two of phone use. (Still not good for a buisness.)  Nicholas Cuc swapped their WAP54g APs for  WAG310s at no charge.  (Apparently, they have been doing this for all customers.)

That all happened in May/June this year. I've been very busy, and not asked them about it since.  Last week I did ask, and discovered they have had regular disconnections, every month or so, for up to a day or more at a time, at both sites.  The customer said the CSRs were always very nice, and got the phones going again.  I said the whole situation was unacceptable.  Understandably, they are now talking about moving all their phones back to Telecom!

Have other people had these sorts of outages?
The only CPE hardware that changed in Tawa as the AP 'upgrade'.  The old one worked fine, as far as we could tell.  Have other people had good / bad experience with the WAG310?

Thanks for any feedback.

Are the outages both internet and voice or just a lack of voice?

To be honest in a business situation I'd opt for slightly more robust hardware than what they have opted for.

The Wag310 is a far superior end device, the WAG54gp2 do have some issues that can arise and if we see a customer with a issue we have been assisting in doing a RMA instead of the customer having to do it, I run this at unit at home myself and it is excellent, Customer feedback from replacements has been great as well.

As for the downtime, as Sbiddle asked did it effect DSL as well, my guess would be yes. Why there were off line no idea without looking at the notes, if the device is offline for any reason, Call Forward unreachable is a great feature especially for Business use, allows the incoming number to redirected if the device is off line, Remote office can also be used to originate calls from another number also very handy. Did the customer tell you what the actual issue was ?

Nic has not left WxC he is actually now part of the Ops Team Smile

Hi Maverick,
I wish Xnet would have helped me with my RMA when my WAG54GP2 died in the voice section, four calls to Linksys, the last one for 2 1/2 hours, in the finish I demanded a RMA and they gave it too me.
Luckily I could dial out on one of the ports as they wont let you call their 0800 number from a mobile. ( I could not receive calls )
The New WAG54GP2 I have still has issues, i.e. there is no QOS on Voice when wireless is used, you can make a call or receive a call but all you get is digital bonging and a really bad echo.
Does the WAG310 fix that?
Also the PSU looks t be unstable, I have had considerably less drop-outs since putting the device on a UPS.
Cheers
John

Thanks for the update Maverick! Good to hear you are Nic are still going strong. Throughout the various issues, we have always appreciated the integrity and sincerity of people who work at WxC.

Yes - I suggested Call Forward Unreachable. One of their staff members was going to arrange a time to go through the great range of WxC features togeather, but it never happened. I'll do CFU today.

Their business Internet model is such that they need Internet for regular small volumes of data. They are unlikely to have noticed if Internet was interrupted at the same time as the phone service. It must be approaching three years now that I've had VFX over Telstra Cable at home, and seldom have any problems (last VFX issue was January, and Telstra had an outage in February, from memory) - and CFU covers Telstra issues with no problems. I'll PM the account details to you, so hopefully you could get someone to look at the notes, and maybe pick where the problem is.

@stevec

Do you have access to to the modem to see what the ADSL stats including sync speed and signal are like? If these are poor then the wiring or connection back to the exchange would be the first thing to look at.

My AG310 is rock solid, also my WRTP54GP2. Recommend the AG310.

I've also deployed a couple of WAG310G's, and they have been very solid.

Chorus has spent $1.4 billion on making their ADSL broadband network faster. Why not spend a couple of hundred to make sure you are getting the most out of your connection?
Geekzone special price: $150* for master splitter install, normally $200+ through your ISP. Auckland and Waikato areas.
*Travel charges may apply. Additional costs may apply for complex installs.
I install - Naked DSL, DSL Master Splitters, VoIP, RBI Rural Broadband. Also a dealer for WorldxChange.

A question to people who use WAG310G's:

Does the WAG310G have any QoS issues like the WAG54GP2v2 does with regards to voice?

I ask because it's very annoying having to pause large downloads/torrents when I recieve or make a phone call. I can't have a usable phone call while downloading (ok, saturating the connection - but that's what QoS is supposedly for isn't it??).

Hmm, thanks for that maverick. May have to look at investing in a new device.

Pity my WAG54GPv2 is behaving itself at the moment though, otherwise I might have attempted an RMA (I've had connection problems, DHCP issues etc in the past with this device). It's problems seem very intermittant - it will go perfectly for months on end, and then at some point in time it will start falling over for no apparent reason.

Hey guys

Using the http://58.28.20.69/configs/default/default$MA.cfg config in the provisioning Section of a Linksys Device I can no longer get into the "admin view" of the voice setup, does anyone know what the login details are for the "admin view" once this stupid xnet config has been entered?

Cheers

Once a device is configured with VFX's auto provisioning you don't have access to the voice configutation options. If you want to make any changes to these contact WxC.

This thread isn't on this particular topic - if you want to discuss this or the reasons why (which have been discussed on here on numerous occasions) please create a new thread.

Humm ... enquired today.  Apparently my laggard client managed to discuss the problem with another CSR or two, and they have fixed it ... maybe.
(Yesterday I spent an hour on phone getting one port-forward configured on an old Thompson ADSL modem on a Telecom line they have at their third office - hopfully the other two offices will keep going, and they'll put the third one on to Fusion too, in time.)
The lack of any comments to the contray certainly confirms this these problems must be something to do with my client's setup.  Thanks to everyone who contributed.
