I've noticed rather poor internet performance on my Xnet Fusion connection so I thought I'd do a quality test at www.pingtest.net. The report card states... "Very poor. Real-time Internet application performance will suffer greatly on such a connection. Test to other servers to confirm the result, but definitely talk to your ISP about troubleshooting the issue." The grade was an unflattering F. Ping 91 msec, 35% packet loss, jitter 15 msec. This test was done mid-morning from Dunedin. A speed test from www.speedtest.net shows a respectable 3.5 Mbps download, but this can drop to as low as 200 kbps in the evening. Yes, I did e-mail Xnet about slow evening speeds, but didn't receive a reply. Anyone else care to carry out the same test and report back? Plenty of threads on this already... It's pointless anyone posting speeds back as so many have previously been posted. There are no guarantees for speeds, particularly international. Decide if you can live with what you've got, bearing in mind it's been this way for around two years and there's no advertised prospect of improvement. If you can't change ISP. Simple. Chuck Norris has abolished the periodic table of elements. The only element he recognises is the element of surprise!

Changing ISP is certainly a solution, but to which one? Perhaps if people posted comments on their experiences and speed issues it would provide some hard evidence for people to make a sensible decision.

I just tried it and got error, can't action packet loss test. I enjoy pretty good internet, although I don't know by what standards you are judging. Internet works, isn't too slow, I can watched streaming video more or less. Can download stuff. VFX is ok too. I'm in Auckland. I'm on fusion and don't notice any speed bottle necks. http://www.pingtest.net/result/2552481.png

Trust me, there's literally hundreds of such posts on all the ISPS, with comments ranging from very happy to very angry across all of them. It's just a matter of trawling through it all which will take a bit of your time. Have a look at the NZConnection wiki as a good starting point for what different providers are out there and what they're offering. Chuck Norris has abolished the periodic table of elements.
