Topic # 112130 27-Nov-2012 14:06 Send private message

Hi everyone,

I have installed and configured X-Lite for my VFX account. I can make outbound calls (have tried 0800 numbers, local numbers and mobile) but the outbound call disconnects after about 5 - 10 seconds. I also can not get incoming calls to come through. The voicemail function does know how many messages are waiting for me.

In account settings:
User ID: I have my phone number without the leading 0 - "UserID"
Domain: pan.wxnz.net
Password: The complex string provided Xnet as "AuthPassword"
Authorization name:  The random string provided by Xnet as "Auth User"
Domain Proxy:
- ticked Register with domain and receive calls
- Selected domain

In Topology tab:
Selected Discover public IP address (STUN) with server address stun.wxnz.net
(Have also tried Auto detect using ICE)
Range of ports is 5060-5070

Advanced tab:
Reregister every 300 seconds
Send SIP keep alives ticked
Use rport ticked

On my router:
Port forwarding
External Port Start: 5060
External Port End: 5070
Protocol: UDP
Internal Port Start: 5060
Internal Port End: 5070
Server IP address: Equals the static IP for my PC
WAN Interface: pppoa0

On Windows Firewall I have both Private and Public enabled for communication for X-Lite.

Any help at all appreciated!!

Cheers,
Matt

What is your network setup? What tyope of router? Do you have the SIP ALG disabled?

Its a D-Link DSL-2870B

I can't find anywhere that you can disable ALG - have had a look around the advanced settings, searched the web and manual for this router. I tried adding the PC with the softphone to the DMZ as a test also (recommended elsewhere) but still cuts out after a few seconds on an outbound call.

My PC is connected direct to the router via ethernet. Router is also the ADSL modem.

Any other ideas at all?

Thanks for your help.

While it may sound harsh my only advice is hrow the modem out and buy something decent that'll work with VoIP. Most d-link's are totally useless with VoIP as many have SIP ALG's, some thatr can't be disabled.

If I were to get a Linksys SPA122 or SPA112 and connect it to an ethernet port on the dlink would I be able to get a standard phone working despite the possible ALG?

If it's a SIP ALG problem nothing will work.

In all my years of VoIP deployments I've yet to seen a VoIP setup ever need a SIP ALG, and likewise have never come across a SIP ALG implementation that didn't break things.

Thanks anyone Steve for your help. Anything I can do to confirm that SIP ALG is what is causing the issue? Would happily move to a SPA if I could.

No idea if it has a SIP ALG, but I wouldn't wish a piece of D-link gear on my worst enemy.

The only way to tell for sure would be to use Wireshark and look at the IP addresses present in the SIP headers. I'd take a stab now and say that's completely beyong your capabilities however!

You would be right that I can't read them but to capture them is no problem.

What is interesting is I can see when I call xnet's 0800 number the following outbound:
SIP/SDP 822 Request: INVITE sip:[email protected] | , with session description

Followed by the following inbound:
SIP 348 Status: 100 Trying |
SIP 510 Status: 401 Unauthorized |

Source IP is 58.28.20.150

401 means you're possibly sending incorrect user details.

Hello kiwimatt

We are sending you the 200ok but not receiving a response back, then after 4sec your end tears the call down. Would appear to be nat or firewall related as indications are your Xlite client isn't getting the 200ok

Just in case others are having issues with this router+VOIP combo, found a post on a forum which has a fix.

OK, sorry to open this one after 14 months, but I found a solution....

I just bought a D-Link DSL-2740B V2 and already had a PAP2T working off a Netgear router. I had exactly the same problems described in numerous forums in Whirlpool, where DSL-2740B just does not play nicely with SIP VOIP connections;

Solution;
I downloaded some EU Firmware here: http://www.divshare.com/direct/5379289-255.rar
From this forum post: http://www.adsl2forum.co.uk/showthread.php?p=64435#post64435

After a reboot, the firmware update changed the orange D-link web interface back to the old school D-Link blue interface, and instantly my PAP2T started working with default settings.

Thought I would post this in case anyone else with this modem router finds this thread.

There is no need to throw the router out as has been suggested to me! In fact we are finding its performance really good. The fix above is for a different router and doesn't apply.

Never managed to get it running with Xnet's VFX. Tried on Open VFX using various SIP clients and back on standard VFX using a SPA112. Logged calls with Xnet help desk. Also logged call with  Dlink. Dlink were great - a very on to it tech called me multiple times and ran through a number of tests over the phone demonstrating the unit working well with other voip providers. The Xnet helpdesk escalated my call but after over a week a call back has not been received.

Long story short I switched to 2talk's voip service and couldn't be happier. Super simple to set up, loads of features, great bundled calls.

To be honest D-Link gear is pretty shoddy....
