I am about to switch to xnet vfx and will install a SPA122. I understand the recommended method of connecting the analog phone is directly to the 'Phone 1' socket on the ATA.

A couple of questions...
1) My broadband modem and router are not conveniently located anywhere near where I want a phone. I am therefore wondering if I can use the existing phone sockets around the house as an 'extension lead' between the phone and ATA?  i.e., can I connect the 'Phone 1' socket of the ATA to one of my wall sockets and connect my analog phone to another?
(I am not sure if the exiting phone sockets are daisy chained or star wired, probably a combination of both.)
Another option I have is to disconnect the feed from the Telstra junction box and connect that to the ATA. Would that work?

2) While most of my phones are cordless I do have two wired ones. I believe only 'Phone 1' can be used on the SPA122?  Is it possible to have two wired phones connected simultaneously to that socket?

Any help appreciated.

Yes to both questions.

You would disconnect the line from the street, which would then go to the DSL port on your modem. The internal wiring for the house then connects to the Phone 1 (FXS) on the SPA ATA. I'll repeat the first bit though - disconnect the line from the street first!

You can then connect more than one analogue phone. How many exactly depends on the current draw of the individual devices, but 2 or 3 should be fine.

REN of the SPA112 and 122 is 5, which is higher than the 3 of the older SPA units (and infact most ATA's). Just don't exceed this and you'll be fine.

REN figures are on the Telepermit sticker or the Telepermit website.

I have done exactly what you are asking at my parents place last Christmas. I disconnected the line coming in from the street. Since they had a master splitter installed they had a separate socket for their modem to plug into and then all I did was took a cable with the 2 appropriate plugs on each end and plugged one end into the ATA and then the other end into a spare wall socket. One year later and all 3 phones they have are still working fine for them.
