The Dynalink is a piece of unreliable junk. For no apparent reason, it drops internet connectivity almost every day now.

Model number: RTA1025WV6

Purchased in Aug 2011 when we got broadband.

What do you guys recommend as a middle of the range ADSL modem?

I'd prefer one with eight Ethernet ports. We don't use the wireless feature, so that's not important.

I am in the same position. I have been reading good things about Draytek on Geekzone and other sites. http://www.draytek.net.nz/draytek/home/ I don't think they have an 8 connection one though.

DrayTek Vigor120 sitting right in front of me on the desk.

Had a very interesting chat with Dale from GoWifi about terminating the PPP session directly on a router rather than using the unit to do PPP termination. He commented they dropped ~15ms latency just pushing it into their router.

I'm going to connect it to one of these... http://www.gowifi.co.nz/ethernet-adsl/mikrotik-routerboard-rb2011l-in.html

But don't rule out wifi capability. It's a darn nuisance if/when you need it later.

I'm a big fan of the Netgear DG series or Bob2 modems. Plonk some custom firmware on either and you can tweak the settings to get a little extra juice out of that copper wire. Don't think it fills your criteria though.

And you have at least CAT5 cabling and a VDSL2 splitter in the path to you modem?

If you run VoIP and ditch the land line you don't need to waste time and energy on a splitter.

Just disconnect the rest of the building wiring from the lead in and run directly to the modem.

I installed CAT 5e from the modem to all the RJ45 ports around our house. I haven't installed a master splitter yet. I don't know if the lack of one would have anything to do with the Dlink's issues?

I don't really know anything about VoIP and what potential disadvantages switching to it might entail. Can you still keep your old land line number with it?

Nope, 4 ports on everything but the single-port Vigor120.

I work for SnapperNet providing Tech Support for DrayTek modem/routers, Edge-core switches, Mobotix high-res IP cameras, QNAP network storage, Yeastar IP PBXs & more.
Anything I say is my own opinion and not necessarily that of Snapper Network Distributors

Vigor120 - replaced a SMC ADSL2+ modem today, sync jumped from 15/? to 17.2/1.2... what's 2.2 mbits worth?

Seem like good value to me. Also problem with VoIP seemed to go away.
