If I've got a modem in half bridge on 192.168.0.1 connected to my router which is 192.168.1.1

My syslog server is 192.168.1.40 - how do I get traffic from the modem to the syslog server?

Do I need to pinhole 514 UDP from the wan side? It doesn't look like for a port forward if I can say only accept port 514 from 192.168.0.1.

The router does have a static route to the also, so the modem is accessible from inside the network.

And the modem has a syslog 'client' that can be configured to forward UDP 514 to the server?

some of my modems don't have the correct configuration to forward UDP 514 to a server.

Thomson TG585v8 needs a server to 'pull' the syslog to the correct destination.
TD-8840 has a syslog client that should be able to forward UDP 514, but I think that was removed in the TD-8840T.

Some routers can be setup as a CIF client to 'locally' store the syslog on a remote syslog server.

And firewalls on the router are not blocking the inbound modem IP traffic from getting to your internal syslog server?

Most modem and router firewalls have no inbound ports open. Even in a half-bridge this may also be the case, but I've not checked, so I'm not sure.

I'm picking this is the case, the router blocking traffic from port 514 on the wan side of the firewall.

Unless I could say, accept 514 from this particular wan ip address (ie the modem) I wont be opening that port up.
