Leading up to Xmas we had various problems with our connections which I think were unrelated: sometimes wireless could not connect to the router, but ethernet could. Sometimes we would lose connection to the WWW, but the router would say we still had local connection (ie within the computers connected to the router). Telecom would say they had recorded various disconnections of our ADSL service from them at times that were different to when we thought we lost connection. In addition my financial services data provider in the USA had some issues as well.
This has made it difficult at times to narrow down where the problem is at a particular instance.
We have just replaced our modem under warranty so it will be interesting to see if some issues now stop. We have a D-Link DSL-G604T.
My question: is there any software that I can install on my computer that monitors the various connections 24 hrs and will identify which part of the network has lost connection eg is it the ADSL with Telecom, is it my ethernet connection with the router or has the wireless side of the router stopped working. The log file in the D-Link seems particularly unhelpful - it only seems to log formal close down and start ups of the router - not disconnections.
