Is anybody experiencing that Slingshot is throttling the VPN speed to 60k/s on all you can eat plan.

Usually max download speed of 60-80k/s although strangely one night last week I went for 2-3 hours at 600k/s+. Looking at shifting isp if I can't figure out a way to get some decent speeds.

Looking at setting up a VPN and saw this thread, mainly want it for two reasons - security and access to regonally locked content. With astrill is it limited to one computer? or can I set it up on all my computers etc in the house? I didn't find an answer to that, when I clicked on that question in their KB is came up blank. I see you can set it up in dd-wrt and probably tomato vpn etc which might be nice because I have a asus n16 but I was reading that even the 480mhz cpu in the asus can't handle the encryption so slows down the speeds by a huge amount. So I guess I will look at installing smoothwall or pfsense or something along those lines. pfsense seems to be the preferred candidate these days going by these forums. Basically I just want to set it up so if I go to certain websites from any device in my lan then it goes through the VPN otherwise not. What would be the easiest set up to use? smoothwall , pfsense, ipcop? dd-wrt x86? I have a dual core atom with 4 gigs of ram I can devote to this task.

One computer at a time, but it can be setup with dd-wrt.

I am using Astrill and mainly connect to the US based server. I have found that although they say Torrents are only supported on some servers that it does in deed work on all of them (including the NZ one) if connected to the NZ server i get the same speedtest results from the connection as i do from my connection with out using the VPN. Most importantly the Wife has not complained about the internet speed being to slow for her youtube videos and general surfing (which was a big concern before I went down this path) I have DD-WRT x86 installed on an old PC with 2 nics and installed the Astrill VPN client on it so all my machines are protected with the vpn. I just make sure i keep an eye on the connection/www.whatsmyip.com to make sure i am on the vpn. With its price point and ability to change servers as often as you like i think Astrill is the best out of all the providers i looked at.

No problems. i was in the same boat with out a router that would run DD-WRT when you go to get the image for x86 go to www.dd-wrt.com and do a search in the router database for x86 it will return the page that lists all the images i just used the "DD-WRT X86 Public Vga: Console image" install instructions are a bit different than you might think but these are the ones i followed with out to much hassle http://dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/X86 flick me a PM if you get stuck as some of the config once running can be a bit funny or so i found compared to other firewall/reouter distros i have used in the past

I can confirm Astrill is looking for a NZ node. Don't think they are going to like the pricing of international bandwidth though =p

What about Atrill and Orcon team up to provide an easy VPN add-on to plans, part of your monthly Orcon bill?

I think Orcon would get intro trouble with adding a vpn service that lets users stream hulu/netflix/bbc and the like. SkyTv would not like it at all..
