Having a strange issue with the network on my computer

On Saturday my internet access didnt work when I turned my computer on, wasnt home long enough to look into it....When i Returned home and turned my PC back on it was going.

Yesterday (Sunday) my internet did the same thing, However I wasnt rushed to get out the house so stopped to sort it out....I discovered that I STILL had local network access....My network drives were connected, I COULD access the HTPC.....I could also VNC into the HTPC and use that computer to browse the internet. My flatmate also had no issues on his pc.

After a bit of looking at DHCP settings, I did a ipconfig and saw the line 0.0.0.0 under DNS, followed by another line underneath with another DNS.....that is the correct one. (see picture)

Uninstall, restart pc, reinstall of network adapter latter, picked up DHCP and all was good again.

Today Ive come home to the same problem.
I turned on my PC and no internet access. This is where the picture comes in

No. 1 Shows me (somewhat annoyed at this stage) doing an ipconfig and it showing 0.0.0.0 has returned.

No. 2 Shows when I disabled the network adapter.

No. 3 Shows when i Enabled the network adapter and its picked up the CORRECT settings.

It seems as the DNS is set to 0.0.0.0 is doesnt look at the second line with the correct one. So it doesnt find internet access.

Im currently on my computer so internet access has returned. But im trying to find out whats going on for if it does it again.

What have I done?
I only recently added the network drives.
I havnt done an 'windows update' for a while. I'm not sure what its set too, it may have found a network adapter update and done it by itself.
No router settings have been adjusted.
I installed adobe illustrator and adobe photoshop, possibly on Friday....Cant think of any thing else I have modified on my computer since then.

Looking at the ipconfig results the problem would appear to be that the PC isn't obtaining the gateway address. This tells your PC how to access the internet, but would allow access to your internal network.

I'm unsure why your adapter isn't obtaining that specific detail.

You could try disabling IPv6 as that may resolve the issue or alternatively specify the IP address details in the LAN adapter i.e. IP 192.168.2.50 Subnet 255.255.255.0 Gateway 192.168.2.1 and then change DNS back to "Obtain".

Specifying the IP settings is not an elegant solution though. Based on the IP it would seem to be a Belkin router and they might be able to shed some light on this.

Set the PC up with a static IP and manually configure the network. I do that anyway, so I can forward some ports on the router to the PC.

On Sunday I DID setup manual IP addresses.
Had a different IP (set on purpose) but of course the DNS has to be the same.

It didnt fix the issue. I could still see local network, but not the internet. Even manual setting dns is still added that extra 0.0.0.0 line. Under advanced the DNS was set too what it should have been.

This is when the adapter was reinstalled....Which only worked overnight.

I havnt had the same issue today. However last night my computer went to sleep, rather then its normal shutdown.

Ill try disabling ipv6 next time it happens...If it happens

If you have manual settings why would DNS add an extra entry? I didn't know that was possible. Next time do a screenshot of your windows TCP settings.

Now you understand why Im posting here : )

Which TCP settings are you talking about?

When I turned on my PC today, it had the non-internet issue again. So its still happening

Spyware: route delete 0.0.0.0

Im guessing in the command line. Ill give it a go next time it happens

I mean a screen shot of the windows 7 network setup, so we can see what you're entering.

Its still happening. Its only when its booted from a shutdown. If it goes to sleep it seems to be fine.

I tried doing the 'route delete 0.0.0.0' but it deleted both dns's out (see picture)

So yeah....Confusing.
Disabling / enabling seems to be working to resolve it.....But a permanent fix would be great

I have to suspect the router is giving out bad routes. Put your TCP config into windows manually and see what happens.

I've tried that. the next day the DNS had that 0.0.0.0 line in it.

The web browser has started dropping out now. I suspect its related.
No webpages will load but if theres a download going it continues to work.

Ive got AVG free installed, I think ill run a scan and run spybot as well.
I tried looking for new network drivers. The only one that is aparently out of date is my videa drivers....But Ill search again.

If that fails I think it might be reload time. : (

Before you reload your computer, can you check one more thing?

in your adapter settings (Second screenshot) can you check the DNS tab under "Advanced..."

It may be possible that there is some settings in there.

The other thing is to run a TCP/IP Reset http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299357

Give that a go too and see how you get on.

I checked all the settings and there was nothing out of the ordinary in there.
Everything was set too 'auto'

I reloaded on friday and yesterday I had issues.
After logging in I got greeted with that not so lovly black screen again.

I reboot and disabled the network in the bios and it went straight into windows fine.

I rebooted again and re-enabled the network, but I unplugged the network cable. Booted into windows fine, I plugged in the cable and it all worked.

So I dont know if its network related or not.
Because I couldnt actually get into windows (i booted a couple of times before I disabled networking) I cant tell if the dns was set right or not.

But it worked when the cable was out.....so either it didn't pick up the cable so didnt enable stuff...Or its something on the network that its not liking on boot up.

Is there some sort of hardware network checker?
