Hi There!

I need to get a record of what has changed in a SQL DB between two steps in an application. I don't have a lot of experience with SQL so I am hoping this is reasonably straightforward thing to do.

Thanks very much in advance. There are about 200 tables, most of which are small.

Something like TRacking changes in your database?

Or perhaps this SQL Server Change Tracking on Table which has some examples and queries showing how to track it.

I don't think this would work for me, since it requires tables to be specifically tracked individually. 

I was kind of hoping for a snapshot and compare solution.

There are compare products around, but I don't know any that are free. Check Idera and RedGate for this kind of software.

is this a one-off debugging sort of thing, or are you looking to log changes and do something with them?

If its a debugging sort of thing, use SQL Profiler, point it at a sql server and tell it to capture queries and stored procedures. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms181091.aspx
