Hi All,

I'm keen to buy a Solution 144 alarm panel and associated bits. Today I wandered into Connect Security Products (who I believe are the Bosch security agent in NZ) in Wellington but was told they dont sell direct to the public, but furthermore, it was "illegal" for me to buy and install my own alarm system, in my own house. Uh-huh.

Anyway, I'm still keen for a Bosch panel and dont really want to buy one off Trademe or an Aussie website if I can help it. Anyone know of a security retailer/wholesaler in Wellington who I can go and talk to and who will sell me the bits I need?

Cheers,

I recall there being some on trademe that sell bosch, possibly mastertrade may sell parts, but pricey. Illegal, possibly the electrical work could be if wired in, but not installing the the rest I wouldn;'t have thought. But not illegal to buy as they sell kits on trademe.

When I tried to do the same - buy a Bosch system to install in my own house - my usual electrical supplier told me that I would have to provide evidence of membership to the security installers association (whatever its called) because they cant sell them to the general public, which backs up what your supplier said.

He coud supply other brands iirc, giving me the impression that it wasnt a law (i.e. not 'illegal') but just against their supplier agreement with Bosch.

Agreed that it's a stupid rule.

5 seconds on google shows auctions on sella and trademe - though sometimes they're expired.

Just another restrictive trade practice, which ironically in other parts of the world would itself be illegal.
