What device is there out there that would enable say a 2 minute sound bite to be stored and played after receiving either a NO or NC signal?
And no, am not talking about a tape recorder with an endless tape!
For alarm purposes.

For voice quality, there are hobby modules around. For music quality, not really.

What is a hobby module?
Just out of interest - those old CD players that worked on mains - if you we're playing a CD and turned off the power and then turned it back on again - would the CD resume playing?!

Some CD players will auto start if there is a CD loaded and mains is turned on. I believe Sony is one of them. Definitely the ones I've used at various installations (about 3). They do have a tendency to loose laser alignment and you cannot easily adjust it yourself, otherwise Sony CD players are great.

I have an MP3 play board for my arduino, it plays files from an SD card.

If I was going to buy the hardware again, I would be a Raspberry Pi.

I liked Neils option, but I think that's limited to 12 seconds of sampling.
