So, I have a new iPod Nano and I love it.

I have an Android phone and I like it but I'm not in love with it as I was when I bought it.

I am currently trying to convince myself that an iPhone should be on my upgrade list.

If, and I know this is a big if, there was a way to integrate an iPhone with an iPod Nano that would be pretty much me sold on the iPhone.

What I want is basically pretty simple. One of the big advantages of using a smartphone as your music player is that you don't miss calls when you are listening to music. So, if my iPhone could tell my iPod to ring that would be great. Sure, it could also do a lot of other funky tricks but that is by the by.

In theory this shouldn't be to hard as the Nano can talk to Nike running shoes so why not iPhones?

Anybody else feel the same way?

yea i too would like see something like this. So when your listen to your ipod nano, you can link up to your iPhone to let your know when your phone is ringing. thinking blue tooth would be the answer.

I can't see a reason why not. It isn't like you would not buy one because of the over lap. Smartphones have  come along way from: "It's a phone and an iPod in one".

The Nano must be talking to those Nike running shoes via Bluetooth, right?

To me it is just another reason to buy an iPhone and another example of how the Apple product family can integrate to give a good user experience.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but wouldn't you just load your music on to the iPhone from iTunes and use that? As far as I know Bluetooth is only for relatively short ranges so you would have to have your iPhone at hand anyhow.

I agree ... If I had an iPhone, it would be my one device that I would do everything with.  Camera, MP3 player, PDA, GPS, etc., ... oh ... and make calls, text and browse the web.

Yeah, this is a niche idea.

Eight times out of ten using one device is best, and that one device is a smartphone.

But there are exceptions.

I'll walk to the gym listening to my phone, it would be nice to be able to switch to an iPod and pick up where I left off. And then again when I leave the other way around. Same thing for going for a run. It would be nice to synchronize the play lists and content across both devices. I'm never going to exercise with a phone strapped to my arm.

The other thing is that I ware my iPod on the outside of whatever I am wearing. My phone is in a case in a pocket, or sometimes in a bag. It would be good to just be able to tap my iPod and start talking.

Add to this that you are extending the available storage and battery life you have.

Motorola, I think it's them, does make a device like this for wearing on the outside and receiving calls.

Sure, it may well be too much expense for Apple to bother, but it would add to the reasons to buy an iPhone. In my opinion at least.

It would also be easier for Apple to do something like this than Android or the others as they control all the hardware and software.

If the Nano does not have Bluetooth how does it talk to the Nike running shoes?
