Just want to inform owners of iPhones locked to AT&T who are not yet aware of this news. I just tested it this morning and my iPhone 4 is now fully unlocked. I used to run Gevey SIM on it. Then my sister-in-law (who bought this for me in America) rang AT&T support yesterday and gave the IMEI and they told her they've unlocked it on 8th of April this year. I'm now using 5.1 and dumped my Gevey sim :D

Have you heard of anyone who's been able to unlock their phones from new zealand? I recently purchase an Iphone 4 locked to at&t on trademe and I am hoping that I will be able to call at&t via skype and get it unlocked.

There is some great news! Now, any baseband can be now unlocked using Bingner's SAM. The iDevice must have jailbroken iOS 5.0, 5.0.1 or 5.1. I have successfully unlocked my AT&T locked iPhone 4 using this method.

See here:

It must be a glitch on Apple's activation server. They will fix it soon. However the unlock will be permanent.

Yes AT&T will unlock out of contract AT&T sourced iPhones but you have to have your iPhone on an AT&T account already as far as I know. ( I may be wrong)

Also the Bingner's SAM method is a hack and will only unlock the iPhone with the SIM Card you choose. Its not a proper carrier unlock and if you change SIM cards it will be carrier locked again. Apple will probably fix this (not make it possible to do this hack) in the next version of iOS.
