"But there wasn't even a new Apple TV in today's announcements - I had one of these for three months, thanks to Apple, and had to return it yesterday, which I thought might mean something."

I don't see why there would be a new apple tv announcement --- they only just released the new apple tv a few months ago.

"but the search function with that otherwise beautiful and handy little remote is an absolute verging-on-unusable pig. Why Apple hasn't released an iOS app for this still mystifies me."

There IS an app to control apple tv (remote app) and it works really well. The tech reporter got this completely wrong.

Strange reporting.

"They look pretty exciting, but frankly, with OS X and a few apps on the new standard Retina model, you will have no room for files at all, and you can't add in a traditional hard drive."

So, with a 256GB SSD Drive, there is little storage left??

Not referring to the current Apple TV but a Apple Television Set that has been much rumored

The reporter states that he has had the use of a device for the last 3 months - is he referring to the Apple TV (media player/streaming device/etc.) or the Apple Television (the rumoured device)?  I think it's the former and as the previous poster stated, a good working remote control app already exists.

To me it seems that the original poster was correct - hope he really is not confused by the conflicting posts that follow (this being one of them).
