No she advised the midnight release would be for contract only, not prepaid, but that the handset only should be available 28th also

Does that mean handset only to people on existing Telecom contracts?

just had an online chat with Apple. the person confirmed that Apple NZ definitely will sell outright iPhone 5 on 28th. but the specific launch time is not given.
from the conversation I speculate it won't be midnight launch, but 9am or 11am.

but who knowsCool

Cool. I'll try my luck in the telecom store though

Hoping they're offering it prepay but first come first served.

Yogi02: Had a little play with one this morning. Had a friend get back from Aussie this morning. Really surprised by how small it feels compared to the 4 due to the decreased weight and thinness. I was going to get a cheap 4 for $599 but have completely changed my mind to get a 5 after that. Just ordered an Otterbox commuter case off trademe. They are currently trying to get a nano sim from telecom but I don't like their chances, just a flashed iPod currently. AU$799 plust 15% gst refund at airport and exchange rate conversion puts it just over NZ $900 I think. Biggest question is .......where the hell is mine!

How does the phone bought from Aussie work here?? I thought it would be locked to all NZ networks?

It sure is. We're just waiting for developers to update their apps and websites.

I've made some test passes and the system works great!

Anyone know why this wasn't added to the ipad? It could have even been windowed if it is a size thing. Annoying that apple includes some apps but not others to the ipad.

Hardware Same. Network is Sim dependent, just waiting for release of nano sim on Friday. I have offered to modify their current sim into a nano sim but no takers. Phone is definitely unlocked as purchased from an apple store.

I'll make a daily visit to the first coffee chain that implements passbook.

Called up the AKL Telecom Victoria West Store and they are indeed having a midnight release! I pre-ordered mine and he said (though he said its what he's been told so may be incorrect) that there will be some stock put aside for pre-orders and that there will be two queues. One for pre-orders and one for 'buy on the night.'

I'm guessing that with the pre-orders, once it's confirmed, that means there is a device put aside for you. So if I go in on Friday morning my phone will be waiting. No need to get up at midnight.

I don't want to sign up for 2 years, so this is turning into an immensely frustrating week trying to work out the best way to ensure I get a phone as early as possible.
