khull: I don't mind waiting. Waited well over 4 weeks to get the retina MacBook. I'd say certainty is better than what Vodafone tried to pull yesterday. Perhaps it might work if they announced the draw it earlier rather than on the day.

It's very clear from that comment that you have absolutely no idea what restrictions Apple put on carriers. Apple have exceptionally strict rules regarding social media and advertising, and we all know what happened to Vodafone the last time they thought they were bigger than Apple and didn't follow the rules.

Apple aren't the nice cute puppy that many people seem to think they are.

jtan: Looks like the official E-Mail went out by Apple about 3am (3:10am) this morning, live on the site not too long after. Now the long wait 'til it gets here... (Hoping still might be able to get it retail and cancel the shipping before then!) :)

Ships:? 3 - 4 Weeks?
Delivers? 29/10/2012 - 02/11/2012 via Standard Shipping

I don't see how that is 3-4 weeks

Isn't apple's logic it ships in 3-4 weeks, and then takes a few days to get to NZ. So there estimate is ships in 4 weeks plus a few days to ship.

I am hoping the the dates slip forward a bit....

No I can remember when I ordered the 4 it had 3-4 weeks shipping as well. But I received it in the 3 week mark.

I remember this too - from when I bought a 4.

A bit off topic but it seems Apple is the current incarnation of "Do no evil", now that we all know Google does evil now and then. Until the next darling company comes on...

OwenMeasures: I cant get over this! people in the UK and US had theres a week after ordering! we had to wait 2 weeks on top of that to order, and now 3-4 weeks on top of that! i cant wait until Apple opens, they are going to get an ear full, i will see what i can find out and report back.

Queues at the Apple store in Sydney when I was there on Sunday extended around the corner despite the fact there was no stock and estimated arrival times of 3-4 weeks for a phone.

Just rang up 2d About Nano Sim

So they already have it in stock. I asked them how much. It's $5 if you're a current 2D customer and $10 if you're a new customer.

I don't think there was. I was online at 1.30 when it came up - so they must have had VERY limited if so.

I'd say the 3-4 week delivery estimate will be a conservative one, and the phone will very likely arrive before that. They need to have a bit of a buffer built in, because if the phones are late their call centre will be flooded with complaints, and obviously they want to avoid that. So I wouldn't be at all surprised to see shipping in 2-3 weeks.

I downloaded Changes Meter for my Mac and Update Scanner add-on for Firefox, and added the iPhone sales page to both of them. Since I'd never tried them before, I thought I'd better have a back-up in case one didn't work.

I was just climbing into bed around 1.00am when Update Scanner went off. I'd set it to play a custom ringtone my husband made of Paul Oakenfold's "Ready Steady Go" since the sentiment seemed appropriate and I was fairly sure it'd wake me up. So of course I rushed to the Mac, checked the page, and all they'd done was add the lightning adapter to the bottom of the page. I browsed away for a few minutes, then Changes Meter's quiet little "ping" alerted me to another change, and sure enough, around 1.10am, the iPhone was for sale. I was in such a flap I had to try 3 times to complete the order, LOL. I'm getting a white 64GB. And I got the 3-4 weeks delivery estimate, so I don't think there was ever a shorter one than that.

Now onto the important business of choosing the perfect case. Otterbox seem to be extremely robust but rather bulky. Anyone have case recommendations? My main concern is scratch protection, with drop protection a close second (although to an extent you can never fully protect from that).

FYI - Dropped by the Yoobee store in Wellington again just after 9 on the way into work.. They confirmed no stock, but they should be getting some tomorrow. The salesperson said they would then also be selling them on a Vodafone plan tomorrow (no outrights).

He suggested if you wanted to buy it outright then get it (as we all already know) from Apple Store Online direct (3-4 week wait).

On the plus side though, they are selling 2x$20 iTunes cards for $30 (25% off) today only --I was going to buy some of these anyways for my partner's birthday & future iPhone (when she gets it - she's the one wanting the new iPhone 5), so still walked out of the store happy :)

64GB buddies! I'm getting the black one, though.

For my case I'm looking for nice aesthetics more than anything. I really like the look of the SwitchEasy Nude, but the $15 USD flat rate international shipping is really turning me off. I might see if there are any in-store that are nice.

Crap I forgot about the cases. Any recommendations of where I can get those from? Since normal places like Harvey Norman etc will probably not have those in yet...
