I purchased my 4S through Telecom outright last year when they were first released at midnight. Spent the whole day Saturday setting up my new phone and then found out on Sunday morning that it wasn't being picked up in iTunes by my laptop. Thought it might have been the cable but tested this Instore at Telecom with another cable and was still having problems. Tried another computer and same story, so contacted Apple and they walked me through various diagnostics on the phone and a factory reset, which didn't fix the problem. They suggested a return to the store and gave me a case ID which was sent by Telecom to Telegistics who services the phone. After it was assessed, it came back as water damaged, which was ludicrous as i had only had the phone for about a day. I was liasing with Apple Customer Support throughout the entire process and explained to them the situation, they then authorised a replacement to Telegistics who then supplied a new phone.

So I would also agree with Cooper1979 to also contact Apple direct if you have issues with your phone. It will need to be assessed by a authorised service provider here in NZ but it is Apple who will authorise work in some cases like my own situation and also help to speed up the process. Also if you have a case number with Apple it will help to record some of the things also tried in diagnosing the phone, helping to speed up resolution time - helpful when you want to get your $1000+ device back ASAP! ;) :)

My lightning adapter is now preparing for shipping, and my white 64GB now has a due date of 26/10-1/11 (previously 29/10-2/11).

I couldnt bother waiting anymore, and just ordered online from apple today. still 3-4 weeks, but its better than waiting for the telcos to decide to sell outright. Could only be late nov.

This could be a dumb question, but do I have the option to cancel my order before it ships, and how do I go about that? Thought once you order they take the funds off my credit card.

Thanks all.

Should've ordered in the first place as you could cancel anytime when the order is still processing. And it would remain processing until a few days before it ships

Canceling is easy. And from previous experience they don't take the funds until a few days after it gets delivered or before it gets delivered

They do 'charge' your credit card straight away, however it's just an authorisation/hold and not an actual charge. The charge then disappears after a few days, and re-appears (and actually charges you) right when the product ships.

To cancel your Apple order, just log into your account and select the "track my order" option. Above your order is a big blue button that says "cancel items" and you just click that and follow your nose. They don't charge your card, they just freeze the funds for the purchase, and that hold expires after a week anyway. Once your item changes to "preparing for shipping" then you can't cancel the transaction.

rainet: I ordered a black 64GB from Apple's online store 6:30am on the morning of availability. Still showing shipping in 3-4 weeks and delivery between 29th of this month and 2nd of next.

From reading various forums over the last few years I am under the impression that iPhone warranty claims can sometimes be quite a headache when purchased through a reseller. I'm sticking to my Apple Store order in hope that should a warranty situation come about I will be well looked after.

Does anyone have any experience with iPhone warranty claims?

Yes i had my 4s replaced with a brand new phone under warranty after the Home button failed - bought through Vodafone so i was also able to get a loan phone 4s while the old one was assessed for repair or replacement.

Apple replaces the phone with a refurbished unit.

Apple Refurbished = new screen, new casing, new battery. When I got a replacement it was basically indistinguishable from a new phone.

The other thing to note with a refurb is they get one quality control unlike a new unit which are batch tested like 1 out of every 2000, my wife's 4s is a refurb.

IF it was a refurb there was no way to tell, standard packaging and a phone just like new.

If you are bringing your own phone, then you can put it one any carriers prepay.
