I have always wondered and now it seems there is a definite answer?

Can you explain how the battery knows how many full cycles if you always charge at near full cycle (say always charge at 75% will it last four times the number of charges if made at 0%?)

From what I recall reading, the counter is what improves rather than the capacity on day one. I may be wrong.

Re charge cycle lifetime, the battery has a rating to last x times full charges, I forget what it is, maybe 1000 charges. The way lithium ion batteries work, if you charge it 10 times from say 1%, that is about 10 cycles of the 1000. If you charge at 50% each time, 10 of those charges equate to 5 full cycles of the 1000. Nothing counts the cycles, but its rated at x cycles for its lifetime. It makes no difference if you almost run it down and charge or charge it at say 50%, you won't waste any lifetime cycles.

Also, best to keep the electrons moving, so not ideal to turn the phone off for long extended periods. And dont let it run to flat, apparently thats not ideal either

Was in JB-HI FI today and they had an iPhone 5 display up with no iPhone yet.

I asked one of the staff when they'd be selling it, and she said that they come under Vodafone's umbrella and that VF won't tell them until the morning of the day it comes out, so that JB staff can't tell their friends and family and buy them all up.  

Fair is fair etc...

People that got it from telecom did you get the old week build?

interesting that so many have commented earlier in the thread that the customer services from the Telco's in this case is really poor, but it looks like a majority of the purchases are going to cancel the account with Telecom when they are the one who have now answered your customer services question by offering the phones on a non-fixed term.

Just goes to show that the argument about customer services seemed to be one of convenience!

BTW I believe this is a doubly smart move from Telecom.

1, they get $29 from people who, based on this thread 50% of wont actually use their service, so their 2% margin on the iphone i.e. $25 + $29 has effectively doubled their margin.

2, The ones that stay on the plan will likely be on the plan for a significant amount of time.

Very smart move I believe, better than offering outright purchases, but not as inconvenient as 24 month contracts, which are rediculous when the new iphone is likely only a year away!

I'd sooner sign up for less discount for 12 months, I always did this when I was in Australia, I have never signed up for a 24 month contract.




I know a little more than nothing but not much...

I'm more concerned over the rattle issue, near the camera power button. Hopefully I can check that this morning when i grab mine

kitto: I got mine today! But it came out of the box with a small chip on the edge and I didn't realise until I had plugged it in  and started setting up. Do you guys think I would have any luck doing a factory reset and seeing if Telecom would replace it? Super bummed.


Take it back for a swap as it is damaged.

vamsee: If you order online on telecom you get to choose interest free options for 12 months billed on your telecom account for monthly payments :)


You can do that in-store, it's called deferred payment and you can do it against a smart onebill account on your phone account.  It's how I am paying off my wife's 4S.

Sending the phone back to get repaired and not replacing the device on the spot is pretty standard practice.. Think about it, if you've just gone and trashed your $1k+ phone from water damage or dropping it, is it really smart for the Telco to give you another one as a loaner while your phone is being fixed?

Otherwise you could always think that Telecom's network is superior coverage and nationwide speed, and excellent value plans in comparison to the competition are well worth staying.  Granted there isn't dual carrier, but even on a single carrier things move along fast enough for me :)

But that's just my view and not that of my employer :)
