Rgg: SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP!! I bought my iPhone 5 on Thursday from telecom on the no term $29 a month and the wifi seems to be faulty (only works sometimes and other times it turns off and cannot find the network). I have restored the phone but that still did not fix it. What are my options?? If I take it back to Telecom should they be replacing it on the spot? Or will it have to get sent away, leaving me phoneless?? Any comments will be greatly appreciated! Just wanting a clear idea of my rights and what to expect/argue for :)

Have you tried it on someone elses wifi connection, just to be sure it isn't your wifi device? Is you device an older one and not 'N'? I have always found IOS devices aren't that great with wifi, especially at larger distances.

I have also heard that there can be issues with the WPA2 encription, also try your Wifi without encryption and or passwords to see if it works

No I havent tried it on another wifi connection yet but my 4 had absolutely no issues with our one so I wouldn't think 5 would be any different? How do I find out what kind of wifi device it is?

Yogi02:
littleheaven: Obviously you need to take the phone back to Telecom, as the retailer they have a responsibility under the consumer guarantees act to repair or replace the unit. If its brand new, personally I woukd expect them to swap it with another brand new unit, but I'm not sure if they are legally obliged to do so. I am certain if they take the unit off you that they'll offer you a loan phone in the interim but it probably won't be an iPhone.

I am pretty sure I saw on Telecom online ordering that they have a 7 day returns policy,
Only if you haven't opened it

A returns policy is separate to the Consumer Guarantees Act. Regardless of what their policy it is, they are legally obliged the replace or repair faulty goods. So you'll have no issue with that, the only unknown is whether they swap the phone for a new one or send it to be fixed. Get them to try it on their in-store wifi and see what happens. Being able to replicate the issue will be helpful.

Edited to add: WOE, TNT's international shipment tracker is down. :*(

why dont you go in and see what they say?

otherwise ring apple directly...their customer services is the best in the world i have found.....when my 4s broke under warranty (purchased from vodafone) i couldnt be bothered dealing with voda so i just rang apple and they just gave me two options;

1. they send me a box and i send the phone back to them. They then send me a new phone
2. pay like $50 and they send a brand new phone to me, then i send them my broken phone back in the same box (they do put a credit hold on your credit card so if you dont send them the phone back they charge you for it)

*option 3 buy apple care for like $130 that give you an extra year of warranty and you dont have to pay the $50 in option 2

There can be so many issues as to why WiFi doesn't work. Try the encryption thing as mentioned earlier as I have heard but not seen that problem with the new 5. So many different routers its a wonder they work most of the time. The other day I was setting up a new iPhone on the network and it just wouldn't get an IP address...figured out I had run out of allotted IP's on the DHCP server.

If you have a warranty claim to make always ring Apple first and they will advise the best course to take and give you a case number. They take you very seriously. Ring this international toll free number: 0080076667666

littleheaven: Thanks for the info! Delivery estimate from TNT is the 24th, so that's looking pretty accurate. Hopefully all of us who ordered on day 1 get their phones this week!

I don't understand this, mine is due for delivery on the 24th! But is still processing!

Maybe the model you've ordered is more popular so they are struggling to keep up with demand. The 24th is the earliest delivery estimate, isn't it? So it might be that your phone arrives closer to the end of the suggested delivery timeframe. if it ships Monday or Tuesday you'll still get it this week, I suspect. Although with TNT's international tracking still offline, I can't tell you for sure how long it takes to get from China to Auckland. If mine left Hong Kong yesterday it should be in Auckland by now (assuming it came direct) which is transit time of two days.

Not so much - if the wifi is connected it works perfectly but then it will just turn off as if there is no wifi available and it wont find the network. THere is no amount of time is stays off and on for it is very random. I will call apple tonight and hopefully they can help. SO frustrating for such an expensive piece of equipment!

Been following this discussion for a while now and just signed up and thought I would share my iPhone 5 story.

Like most of you, I put my order in in the morning of the release here in NZ. When I read on here on Tuesday that Telecom was offering them on an open plan contract I went in and got one and cancelled my Apple order. Phone had one very small nick by the volume control but I didn't care as it was going in a case and I finally had a phone. Very impressed with the phone, so much faster and snappier than my iPhone 4.

However I noticed on Saturday morning that there was a distinctive rattle coming from inside the phone somewhere (it sounded like a loose screw inside somewhere), googled this and found it was quite a common problem. Sometimes it was a loose battery connection, sometimes it was the balancing weight for the vibration, and sometimes it was a loose power button. For me it was definitely not the power button, so I thought I would try my luck and take it back to Telecom and see what they think.

It was the 3rd phone they had back with this problem, and the sales person called up Apple. I talked to Apple for about 10 mins describing the problem etc and was put on hold while they spoke for a supervisor. The Apple person spoke to the Telecom sales person and they swapped my phone on the spot for me. I was very surprised and very happy as initially the sales person said they might have to send it away to get fixed, meaning I would be without a phone for a week or so.

Thank you Telecom for being awesome and swapping my phone for a new one, when they probably could have just sent it away and given me a crappy loan phone.

Everyone on here please give your phone a shake and listen for this rattle, it is pretty distinctive.

My 5 has a rattle if i shake it hard enough...so did my 4 and 4s.

Its quite normal and was all over Apple boards a year or so ago....cant recall what it was.....but was quite normal.
