stuffed: Phone look great but with there going to be no Google Maps inbuilt into iO6 what about all those business operators who have paid good money to have their names  imbedded that not only helped them but was great for us tracking them down?!

Pay some more good money to Apple?

It will have the fanbois lining up because they don't want to be seen with the 'old one'.?

As for me the 4 just dropped under the $700 mark so might actually be a contender for my next upgrade.

No doubt there will be fanbois with that mentality, but not all of us are by any stretch. The tech is nothing special, but if you do use the package of the hardware/software eco system, it is well put together. Actually, many buy last years phone and the one before that, so in many ways the Apple way is a very different model. I begin to think that they dont actually compete with others, as they could easily but dont seem to wish to. At the end of the day the buyer has many choices they can consider.

There are many good reasons to buy an iPhone. On of the main things for me is that older models get the iOS upgrade. Android users are might?get an upgrade if they are buying a phone that is six months old but they will probably only get the one upgrade if that, or risk custom ROMs.

I won't argue that iPhones are good, they are and specs aren't everything. To me it has always been about the price. I think an iPhone 4 under $700 might just be my next phone. ?

Not all old models get the ios upgrade. At one stage apple also did charge some users for the upgrade. I don't think the 3gs is getting ios6 and that was a current model yesterday.

mattRSK: I can't seem to find any measurements anywhere, admittedly not looking that hard, but is the iPhone 5 the same overall size as the 4s? If so that is exactly what I wanted!

It's 7 or 9mm taller but same width (Can't remember which). It's on the apple site somewhere

The stupid thing is that there was no reason to make it taller, as they could have got rid of some of the black space at the top and bottom. Even remove the old home button. Surely after 5 plus years they can come up with something better than the big clunky round home button. The ipod nano touch doesn't have it.

It is probably due to internal components.

Must be the 3G then that isn't getting ios6. The 3GS though won't get all the new features though. In my case I have an ipod touch 2nd gen, and after only 2 years after I purchased it new they stopped ios updates. So now I can't update my apps for the risk of them not working on anything newer than ios4.2
Yet if I buy a new apple device, I don't think I have any control over what version of the apps get installed on the new ipod versus the old ipod, when I sync with my PC. eg you can't have multiple versions of the same app. Not unless I sync using a different PCs for each device.

Perhaps they will remove that button in the iPhone 5 1/2. They have to leave something to milk the money out of us for the future.

True but you buy an S3, top of the line Android, and you don't have the latest Android version. You get a 'promise' they will update to Jelly Bean at some stage. There are plenty of mid-range Androids sold new that aren't even running ICS and they get very vague 'maybe there will be an update at some stage'.

The 3GS is how old? And it is still getting the iOS6 upgrade, admittedly a not all the bells and whistles but still.

From a consumer point of view this almost pushed me over to iPhone and might do it yet.

So what is the story with the nano sim? I wonder if Vodafone might use this as an opportunity to move old iPhone plan users to the new one?

The product would have been defined already. When you're fighting a patent battle (partly) based on a button you wouldn't be removing it.

Awesome

Dan Lyons said it best.  Apple launches just aren't interesting anymore.

iOS 6 on 3GS is a crippled iOS 6

I dont quite understand why people are so into must have latest version of android. 4.1 vs 4.0 only has small changes

Wonder when pre-orders will open for us in NZ. I'm thinking next Friday (21st September)?

I hope Vodafone & Telecom have nano SIMs in stock by the 28th!
