mattRSK: If Steve Jobs was still around this never would have been released. Has there been other Apple releases of old technology?

iPhone 3GS till recently was still being produced. 4. 4S.

The iPad Mini is an small iPad2, I thought released to compete with 7" tablets, and cheap. If they made it an iPad4 Mini it won't be cheap. Fills a gap in my opinion.

littleheaven: So, what are they like? What do you guys think of the image quality and speed? I'm curious to see how they measure up to their larger counterpart.

Very happy with mine so far, not at all concerned about screen res - looks pretty crisp to me, but then I am upgrading from a gen 1.

But the attention to detail and build quality is just phenomenal, way better than I expected and well worth the extra cash, and I am an industrial designer so I have high standards!

The form factor is just right for me, ipad 1 was just a little too big and heavy to use for long periods, the mini seems just right and I have small hands. Sure if they bring out a retina version it will be even better, but really it's not a deal breaker as this does everything so well you just cannot complain once you start using it....

iPad 1 to any other iPad is pretty much going to be amazing lol

Indeed, but I also have a retina iphone 4 so I am used to high res screens and the ipad mini is pretty good really. Like I say not a deal breaker and all in it's still a great product.

When does the mini go on sale in physical stores?
I see that Apple is selling it from their website already, with the wi-fi only version shipping in two weeks.

Does anyone know of any stores around Auckland that have the ipad mini's in store and on display, I went everywhere in Pukekohe and just got weird looks!

I really want to see how it looks/feels compared to the Ipad.

Would prefer East or South Auckland.

Thanks.

Maybe try JB Hi-Fi in Westfield Manukau.
The item is showing as for sale on their web site.

I would have thought Noel Leemings down Manukau Rd in Pukekohe would have had it, since it's smack on the front page of their website, but maybe they're just slow in getting it in.

Any of the Dick Smith stores with an Apple logo next to the location name in their store list should have them.

I had a play with one today next to the Ipad 3rd Gen and to be honest I like the size, can't really tell the difference between the screen resolution in the real world and the lightening adaptor doesn't seem like a bad thing, I am now leaning towards a Ipad Mini 32Gb wi-fi + 4g for my trip away or xmas if I can't wait that  long!!!

I think after seeing them there is a lot to like about this device, size is actually quite usable as a portable device or for urgent need to google something without having to wait for the laptop to boot up!

I don't watch movies on these devices, and if I need to on a flight it is still larger than the in flight monitors!
