Would consumers and more importantly the Commerce Commission allow carrier locking in exchange for lower prices?

Carrier locking seems to be a major factor in why phone subsidies are better overseas.

I see on the Aussie version of the site they have insurance, will be interesting to see once they have comparisons between car insurance in NZ, Australia and the UK how many of the people who complain about the cost of NZ mobile phone plans ask the NZ insurance companies to put up their prices as we are paying less for car insurance than the UK

It's not just locking oh phones overseas, things such as portability also make a big difference. Don't like your network here in NZ? In less than 60 minutes you can (on a good day) be on a new network.

Try that in the UK and it's a miracle if you get a port done within weeks, that's after you've had the losing carrier continually approach you offering fanastic deals to stay.
