I'm looking at buying an iPad as a gift. The "Apple Expert" from the online store who invited me to email him with questions does not know the answer and is giving evasive and information empty responses.

The question I'm asking is - In the event warranty service is needed, what is the warranty service procedure if I buy the item from the NZ Apple online store?

A secondary question is - What is the warranty service procedure if I buy from NZ bricks and mortar?

A third question is - Apart from the additional cover provided by Apple Care does it change the warranty service procedure in either/or the first and second case.

Grateful for any responses.

[Edit: I'm also asking how I can ensure the recipient will be correctly known as the first owner for warranty purposes. I assume the receipt will be in my name which is not great if a service rep gets picky about it and I'm not available to see it through the process]

When dealing with contact centres, unless the question is in their list that they lookup, they probably can't answer it.

Possibly buy it under the name you intend to purchase it for? You will be covered by the CGA in anycase.

There are apple service centres in most of the big cities in NZ. I call the helpdesk and they ask me which one I want to send it to. I am pretty sure the list is on the apple website.

I have never had a problem with their process.

If I buy it from bricks and mortar will the retail store forward and receive to/from the warranty agent if there are problems? The reason I ask is the recipient is not technical and it will be good if they can discuss any perceived issues with a retailer in person. If retailers are usually a gateway for iPad warranty service like they are with other brands then I will consider buying from local retail near the recipient in this instance. Very likely to be somewhere like Noel Leeming.

The recipient will not be syncing to any external devices so that should cut down the scope of potential software issues.
