clicknz: Other tweaks that are possible (haven't used myself tho') - if you prefer Google Maps app or perhaps Chrome browser on your iOS device you can set it so that they are defaults in hyperlinks from emails, contacts, etc.

Which app to do this?

These claim to do it (haven't tried myself) - Browser Changer (also sets map option) or BrowserChooser. MapsOpener will set Google Maps app.

surfisup1000: Is it against the law to jailbreak?

It is certainly a breach of contract at the very least.

Just curious.

I think until there's a test case brought before the courts in this country the answer is probably "who knows?". Maybe you could ask your carrier what their thoughts are, call the police or a lawyer and ask them, or perhaps call the Apple help desk. You may get different answers, but mostly I would expect indifference - I seriously think there's more to worry about than what we get up to with our smartphones.

Apple would be pretty worried about it.   From what I understand, the primary reason for jailbreaking is so you don't have to pay for apps.

Sure, there are a few other benefits, but, I'm talking about the primary reason.

Your understanding is a bit off the mark then.  Some people did jailbreak in order to download and install pirated versions of App Store apps, but some of the big repositories for those apps have been removed now which makes it even harder to get hold of those apps.  That hasn't stopped Cydia from grinding to a halt today due to demand from jailbreakers - so if they're not looking for free apps I wonder what they're looking for....?

The primary reason for jailbreaking has always been to remove annoyances, customise layout and look/feel, and adding UI tweaks.  Also most of the best tweaks are paid apps as well....

OK, maybe i'm wrong. But, I did a quick check in piratebay and there do seem to be free downloads for the popular games.

I think some people will be pirating so I don't think apple will be happy about this. They don't seem to lock down their security too well  (it took years for the ps3 security to be bypassed for example).

I think Cydia is being heavily hit on, as I have not been able to download anything or check my Cydia account.

There is/should be an app for tweaking show/hide icons. Just need to find the right app. Maybe SBSettings or NCSettings have it?

NCSettings doesn't have the ability to hide icons or respring the springboard. SBSettings could be installed alongside NCSettings to manage the hiding of unwanted apps
