nudge:
teihoata: Expansys is selling the 16 gb for just over $1250.. Excluding gst.. and shipping.. My guess is vodafone's pricing will reflect this

Is anyone else considering Japan as an option.  Their 16gb iphone 4 is 46,080 yen or $728 nzd - no contract, no carrier limits.

ATM vodfone is selling the 3gs 16gb on a $80 month plan for 2 years for $699.  I doubt they would sell the new phones any cheaper than the 3gs, which makes the buying outright through Japan look fairly attractive.

I have a mate in Japan, gets back to NZ 1 July, I'll see if he can get me one.  Would be kinda cool to be one of the first :-)

Not sure what supply is like in JP tho... here hoping.

Iphone is only available on plan via Softbank in Japan. Comes locked to the network as well (as do all softbank phones).

thats the sound of crap hitting the fan before we even get the iphone in NZ. If there is a re-call for the reception issue it'll happen before we even get it.

Amazes me how there's such a sense of entitlement in the US, suing a company for a poor design?? if you don't like it, don't buy it! these retards should be entitled to nothing more than a full refund. (or perhaps a free case)

(I'm just a monkey who flies RC planes but I could have told them that touching the aerial totally destroys your signal - in the tx manual it recommends you do not come within 80mm of the aerial while flying to maintain maximum signal strength. I guess dropping 2kg of wood and metal does more damage than a call.)

I think the case is more about Apple knowingly selling a phone with a poor antenna design. They are a company that care more about aesthetics and design than engineering after all.

On another note, the Anandtech review is a good read

I've been saying this since I first heard that the bezel was also going to be the antenna...touch any antenna and you lose signal - that's a given.

Why design a product that relies on the antenna being touched to actually be used, whilst touching the said antenna impedes it's usefulness.

I also agree, people should only get a refund of the purchase price or a free "bumper".

bazbo: oh yeah and my take on pricing (and this is probably just wishful thinking) is that apple will match the recent 3gs pricing so iphone 4 16gb will be $999 and 32gb will be $1099.

My reasoning is based on the comparative prices of UK iphones and ipads when compared to Australian prices, which gives an AU price for the 32gb at close to $899au which equates to $1099nz.

wouldn't that be nice eh?

Ok so I have changed my mind and I now think that the prices will be as follows:

16gb  - $1099
32gb - $1299

which kinda sucks compared to my original estimate, but we can but hope!

Thhey are manufacturer refurbished units but basically are as new and still have the exact same warrenty of a brand new one just without the cost. If i was interested in ever owning a Apple product then the Iphone would be it and at those prices why not save some money???
