Topic # 82988 8-May-2011 11:12 Send private message

Hi all,

Just got the wife an iphone and trying to set up the email.

Previously I created a mailbox for her from within my own ihug account and today changed the password.
Now, loggin into her own vodafone account for her mobile and linking to the vodafone mail page, I enter in her address but the server has got some issues, so I cant proceed.

I believe I have to log into her own account and set up the mail before I proceed to set up her mobile for ihug/vodafone mail?  correct?

Or can I simply do the following on the mobile...

pop.vodafone.net.nz
smtp2.vodafone.net.nz

Port???   I have been searching the forums and am getting a bit confused on what port number to use.
ideally want to have the mobile check mail as IMAP.

Hi there, thanks for that... my username was without the @vodafone.net.nz
HOWEVER, cant log into the vf mail website to set the pop/imap password.... so im thinking the password change i made from my own account hasnt taken effect OR I need to delete that mailbox from my login and re-add it from the wifes login. (was an exisiting mail box under my own account).

My iPhone 4 is set up for ihug, but vodafone should be-

Host name- pop.vodafone.co.nz (or pop3.vodafone.co.nz) If it is an ihug account then pop3.ihug.co.nz
enter user name and account password

SMTP- smtp.vodafone.co.nz

Authentication- password

server port 110

This works for me.
If your email is ####.ihug.co.nz, then use the pop3.ihug.co.nz, if it is ####.vodafone.co.nz,  use pop.vodafone.co.nz

Hope this helps

Ok, so far....
I get conflcting info from the vodafone website (perhaps im being a muppet).

On the iphone...
IMAP Info
Name:  Wifes Name
Address: [email protected]
Description:  Vodafone

Incomming Mail Server
Host Name: imap.vodafone.net.nz  (this is what the VF website help pages tell me)
User Name: [email protected]
Password:

Outgoing Mail Server
smpt2.vodafone.co.nz (again what the VF website told me)

SSL Authentication = Password and Server Port = 143

Now, i goto vodafone mail from the wifes current login to see her balances etc etc and link to vodafone mail to get the imap password everyone refers to.

BUT i get an error about the domain name being public.
so do I need to delete the account I previously created (via adding a mailbox to my own VF account) and add it back here?  however the issue with the above is with the domain name...its telling me its public and I need to choose something different.

Im really confused that there seems to be two sites relating to VF mail.

help??  (forgive my muppetness...but this is starting to get rocket science for something thats usually so simple)!!!

Try this help file for POP3 instead of IMAP- http://www.vodafone.co.nz/help/device-support/user-guide/?wm=man:3768,page:hom

The difference between the two types of email is explained at this site- http://email.cityu.edu.hk/faq/popimap.htm

Cheers

The IMAP and POP settings are this!

user name = full email address for POP / IMAP access

server = pop.vodafone.net.nz or imap.vodafone.net.nz

POP = port 110
IMAP = port 143

Out going server = smtp2.vodafone.net.nz

Set the POP/IMAP password on the email address in Vodafone mail

That is it

not quite "it".

a couple of days back, finally got VF mail to work (via link within the account page). changed the pop/imap password and sent this to the mobile as a text from the website... just to confirm that I wasnt being a muppet in getting the password wrong.

Next, use these settings, but after a few days I still arrive at the point where its rejecting me....
The VF mail website is pretty slow and yet this evening I cannot access it.

GRRRRR.

and POP doesnt work either...somthing about "pop.vodafone.net.nz".
I know the ALL the settings are correct.

what could be wrong?

is it because im connected to wi-fi at home?

is it because gmail is must eaiser to implement than vodafone mail

i think ive wasted enough time.

thanks for listening though.... the wife will just have to wait some more before using the email account that she should be using.

Why not just setup a gmail account, at least that way you get mail pushed, get gmail to pull mail out of the voda account via pop, over time ween her off the voda email, you can get gmail to send email using the voda account name if you want.

Thanks Cyril.. however not ideal as she already has gmail but under the wrong name. (now married).
hence why the migration to the voda inbox.

given it another go...

getting close. apparently my outgoing settings are not right... (server not responding, check outgoing settings).

ive used smtp.vodafone.net.nz
full email addy as username
SSL on and using port 143 (same as incomming)
Auth set to password.

its still bouncing back refering me to check network connection or outgoing settings.
