These guys are selling iPad2's for only $699 incl GST. But they say that isn't not covered by Apples Warranty but only their own one for 12 months. I thought Apple would cover any product regardless of where it was purchased?

Is that correct?

Well, yes and no. Because they are not apple resellers, you will probably find that Apple's warranty on them starts from the date of purchase, and that will be the date of their purchase. So if they have had it sitting around for 4 months, then 4 months of Apple's warranty is gone.

Apple's warranty is, however, international.

So, there is some risk involved in it therefore.

You're still covered by the CGA, which is probably better than apples own warranty

Check that they are not 're-manufactured'. As I recall some lower priced units being offered earlier that were not new.

I raelly wonder how they manage to get these so cheap though. Refirbished perhaps or are they making knock offs in China now?

Aren't the originals already being made in china? No these will have to be the originals and new, as they aren't advertised as anything else. I suspect they are getting them from the US or another asian country, where they are a lot cheaper. $100 saving though isn't a huge amount.

Yes originals are from China but they are even making fake Apple stores in China now.

I thought the margins were pretty tight for resellers, like around 7%??

They would be if they were buying from the NZ distributer. However I think as they are parallel importing them, they would be buying from a distributor/wholesaler somewhere else in the world that is charging a lower price, hence they can sell them for less. They are possibily selling them for less than retailers in NZ can even buy them for wholesale.
The other possibility is that apple are getting rid of ipad2 stock , ready for the release of the ipad 2s or 3, but I doubt that.
