Dingbatt: I have to ask, is all this personal information you are volunteering being stored on Apple's Siri Server to maximise its assistance to you?

No. Siri creates an addition to the owner of the iPhone's contact book that says "Sister" and has the name of the person's sister. ect. ect.

But ...nevertheless....big brother is watching you!  ***insert evil laugh***  wuuuuhahahahaha!

I've just been experimenting with the voice dictation and it seems to struggle with a lot of words and phrases such as:

Black Cat = Blake Text
Silver Ring = Silver Rain
The Next Bus is Due in Ten Minutes = The next bus is Juden Tina minutes

On the other hand it dictated "he is having surgery tomorrow" and "you have to do what you feel is right" almost perfectly. Obviously it helps to speak clearly and ensure that each word you speak sounds distinct.

This is a really promising feature for me as I personally find it very awkward to poke away at a tiny little virtual keyboard, so I look forward to Apple improving it over time.

What language settings are you using? It maybe worth trying another language to seeit'd it improves for you.

I did your phrases above and got 100% success. I'm using the UK English settings, but I guess that's cheating as I am from UK!

Yes, I think you have a distinct advantage there!

I have quite a blunt Kiwi accent so unfortunately my speech doesn't sound very Australian, British or American. By default my Siri is set to Australian which I think is the closest match for now. When you think about it the difference between the New Zealand and Australian accents is probably comparable to variations in accents between different parts of the UK or US.

Hopefully in due course Apple will offer further regionalisation.

From what I have experienced, Siri does train to your voice, confirmed by another poster. Certainly, we may need to speak more clearly for some words. I have had soem slow methodic sentences partly wrong, and others spoken quicky exactly right.

You can create relationships, i.e XXX i my wofr, then you can "text wife"

Today I changed a contact, but Sir still used the old contact, even after a restart

I agree. It would seem it learns and gets better over time, or I have slightly changed the way I say things to it as at first I didn't have as much luck as I do now. My success rate isn't always 100% but it's pretty close

I have to admit that when I was messaging a friend later yesterday afternoon the accuracy seemed to be much better than it was when I was playing around earlier in the day. I'm not sure whether that's because it's adapting to my voice, or whether I'm just being more particular about how I'm speaking.

Siri has had real trouble understanding me when I have asked her to "call Ben"

She says she doesn't understand "call being"

She does, however, understand me when i ask he to play virtually any song from my 5000 song music library. That's pretty cool.

Kiwis will have trouble as long as the closest setting is Australian, with words like Fish, Chips, Ben, Think etc...

I would hate to be a Geordie, though...she just wouldn't get it at all...likely she'd ask you to speak English.

I am one of these lucky people, however as I have a ‘work voice’ so people understand me here, Siri seems pretty good with that, I haven’t dared try my native accent...

Problems tonight. Very often she says there is a problem and to try again. Also, delays in responses, but ok if I ask her to text. I assume there may be a NZ/Apple server issue as when I was out 3G was good reception, and at home my BB is not reduced in speed.

Anything similar guys?
