I'm shortly getting an iPhone. From time to time I plan to use it as a personal hotspot with my laptop. (I'm going to be cautious about burning through my data)

The laptop has Bluetooth and wifi b/g.

Which is faster?
Which is easier? (I don't mind if it's fiddly to set up for the first time, as long as I don't have to dick around every time I want to use it.)
Which uses the most battery power from the phone?
Which is better security?
Is there anything else I need to think about?

Cheers,

Martin

WiFi is supported. WiFi will always be faster than Bluetooth.

+1 for WiFi. Very Easy, after you have entered the WPA password the first time, every time you turn on Personal Hotspot on the phone the laptop will conenct to it.

Hi - another option would be to also use the USB docking cable to share your data connection. Possibly faster than WiFi and it will help keep your phone charged as the hotspot function does tend to drain the battery.

Cheers,
Mike

That sounds cool.

So you plug the phone into the computer (it's a Vista Sony VAIO).

What happens next?

I think you have to have iTunes installed, turn on Personal Hotspot on the phone, that is all, internet is go.

Did this the other day with a win7 hp laptop, automatically installed drivers and just worked, when plugged in the usb and turned the hotspot feature on the iphone on.
