To those Apple fan boys lol
New iOS 6 will be released later this year

http://gizmodo.com/5917359/ios-6-new-features-coming-soon-to-your-iphone-and-ipad

Key features:

Siri
Facebook integration
New phone feature
New Facetime
New Safari
iCloud photo stream
Mail
Passbook **
New Map (Ditching Google Map)
+Many more, list is too long :p

Not a huge leap comparing to last year's WWDC
But Passbook sounds interesting

Interestingly enough iOS 6 is available to ipod touch 4 and iphone 3gs but not ipad 1 :(

Enjoy :p

Turn-by-turn navigation powered by tomtom .... i wonder, how will the maps be loaded onto the device? By 3g? Hope not, it is unusable if that is the case (due to low 3g caps).

The iPod touch 4 is the most current model so it should be available for it, although it's hardware is pretty old. The 3GS is old so surprised it is available for that. The iPad 1 is newer than both and has more powerful hardware so not good that it isnt available for it.

Turn by turn navigation only available on 4s!!!!! Why? How do you explain this to owners of 4/3gs etc?

They always exclude some features from prior generations in order to entice upgrades.

Yup, agreed! but turn by turn was the least expected to be excluded especially because it is available if u hv igo/ tom tom etc. so can't see any hardware limitations really! :(

Hopefully the Facebook integration will result in improvements to Facebook's unreliable resource-hogging app, or at least make us less reliant on it.

Is the shared photo stream feature effectively a replacement for the photo album feature that was available on Mobile Me, or does it only allow sharing between iOS/OS X users?

I've just installed iOS6 on my iphone 4 and I can see turn by turn working fine, it just doesn't have Siri integration/voice prompts.

mattwnz: The 3GS is old so surprised it is available for that.

It's still being sold, and likely will be until the 6th gen iPhone is released. Apple is supporting hardware that's still available.

When you say it works fine do you mean it shows up or that it actually gives you updated ETA's and distance as you drive? Mine shows the milestones (ie turn left in 2 KM) but then it doesnt change until i get to that turn and then the next turn shows up but the distance doesnt change at all (shows 2KM to next turn the whole time)

On the demos online the users are getting constant ETA and a distance calculation that changes (like a normal tom tom)...just curious if you were getting this full experience?

A normal tom tom map is less than 50mb from memory so local storage is no issue but if you are adding in 3d satellite view it could become too big to comfortably store, lets not forget tomtom maps for say USA can hit close to 1gb so the solution has to be viable for the world

My question is about mapping coverage, with some people saying that the coverage for turn by turn being limited.

I would assume that given tom tom have pretty good nz maps, they will have good turn by turn here?

I routed from work to my house and that was OK, but it's not far. I should try something more complex and see what happens.

The satellite maps are all in greyscale though, hopefully that'll be fixed by release otherwise it'll be a step back.
