Hi All

Have been having an issue in my iPad 2's email app. I will email away for a while and then at a seemingly random time the email app won't pull mail down from the web browser and displays an error alert about the imap gmail server is nor responding please check mail settings..

If I cycle the power normal email functionality resumes for a time and then repeat. Outgoing mail is fine all the time as are other Internet active apps. Issue doesn't go away until power is recycled

My email is a google hosted domain.
I don't have the issue in my I phone 4s
A hard reset has been done a few times.
Ive updated my firmware

Any ideas ?

Cheers

Toby

i've same issue with default email client. I can send emails fine BUT pulling down sometimes does not work! I've switched to GMAIL own app and dont have any issues with that.

may be you could try that too ?

Delete the gmail account off your iPad and then add a new mail account as an 'exchange' account.

I have tried the other setup using the 'add gmail account' method. But find the exchange account is more reliable, and also allows me to sync gmail contacts and calendars.

There has been a widely reported issue with ios, and gmails imap. As iestar has mentioned you should not be using imap anyway, I suspect its a sick joke of apple's to guide you down that path. The supiour method is to use the Exchange mapi interface that Gmail supports.

Simply delete the exisiting imap setup, then start a new Exchange setup, use your full gmail address as the login, the server is m.google.com, dont enter any domain server detail.

Once done you can sync email, contacts and calendars with gmail, and it will automatically push the email, unlike imap which supports no push concept.

Another option is to simply use the web interface via safari, you will get a rather cool dual pane interface, just go to gmail.com and enter your gmail credentials.

Agreed, I use the Gmail.com interface on my Sony S Tablet and it works fine and is also responsive. You could also go into Gmails settings and set the account to POP3 and set iPad to leave messages on server.

But pop also will give you no push.
